Now I ain't talkin' bout that panty waist pop shit off the past 10 years. I mean that good stuff, kinda thing with a bit o' grit, bit o' truth, and a whole lotta Goddamn heart. Songs like this Or this And a whole lotta this In short these songs bring tears to my eyes everytime, don't worry they don't make it past the lids. The soul put into this stuff gets me every damn time.
I like the Dixie Chicks. They're more punk rock than country. Like, seriously. If The Clash were going to fo bluegrass, they'd be the Dixie Chicks. I also know a lot of traditional country music fans despite them. For basically being punk in their attitudes and content.
I love country from the 70s and 80s. And some from the 90s but that was when it really started to get poppy and watered down.
Anything from mid 90s on up you really gotta search to find the good stuff but it's still out there. Like this from, I believe, 2012 Or this from what I reckon was last year
i I do love me some Allison Kraus but I ain't seein' much country in the first video. More Zeppelin than Kraus there. The second is opposite though.
Figures. I was referrin' to the sound of the tune as bein' more country, the lyrics certainly had a rock feel
This song is from Ween's country album. I love it, but one of the songs cracks at Asians. I hate that. It's called "Japanese Cowboy" and it has a line about "a brother on skates...". I never cared for that. Even when I was totally into Ween it made me cringe because it hinges on racist topography. And here they are! Ween!! There are elements from country in Beck's music too. Two of his albums that I really like feature acoustic guitar; one, "Sea Change" with steel guitar (the lap guitar with the slide). EDIT: Oh yeah... and they have one called piss up a rope with lyrics bad mouthing an ex-gf. It's funny like an ICP song, but one of the things I've learned about comedy is that if it's not appropriate to laugh at, maybe I shouldn't listen. (just posted about this in the Bill Maher thread...)
See I just dont really like those songs. It isnt pop country for sure but something about the sound just kinda rubs me the wrong way, I don't really know how to explain what I dont like about it though I really like the old outlaw country from the 70s and also the good ol' slow country ballads. The only new country musicians I really like are Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton Anyways here's a Tanya Tucker song just because
0 I can respect that ma'am. Reckon it's likened to how Rap rubs me raw. Granted I can state why I don't like it but regardless. Outlaw country is my personal favorite too. Johnny, Waylon, and Hank Jr are in my top 10 for sure
