alright Ice Cube, I'll check myself. I have lived amongst them. I know who they are. Most are junkies, some are sad, sober men. Most of them are too pathetic to face life so they just shovel through the shit everyday. I may sound like an idiot but at least I speak from first hand experience

lunarverse, why are you looking at this in a black and white way.
Why are you branding all homeless people bums?
    I can't understand that.

You did though, and you had a couple lucky breaks.

You're also not suffering from mental illness which prevents you from working at the time I suppose? Theirs a lot of pain out their people on the streets people have to deal with without dealing with contempt from holier than thou hipsters.

Because they don't try to change. I'm not at all holding them up to the same light I hold myself. But they choose to be in that state. It's the same way when you live with an alcoholic or an addict (which is how I got there). They choose not to change, do you feel sorry for them? Fuck no. Whether thy're homeless or not

iii did but obviously others haven't, i give money to the homeless and give whatever i can, and i'd expect the same from them which i've gotten. some people may be homeless because they're lazy... but there's also some who aren't. there's no need to hate, or wish death upon ANY humans for no good reason... and your reason is not good... no one agrees... because you're wrong bro.

I am as right as I believe I am. I don't mean to sound so cold, but I am so fuck it. But the bottom line is, today there are so many resources for those people there is no reason to be in their position.

Their are other people in this thread with 'experience' who can show compassion.

Yes...I understand the illness thing. Those breaks..they weren't by chance, I made them. As for people with mental illness. there are more than enough resources for them. I have two family members with terrible mental problems, but they still manage to cope somehow.

You're completely ignoring the multiple questions about the mentally ill. There are a lot of people who are just too crazy to work. But fuck, I guess mental illness is one of those things you have to have to sympathize with, too.

edit- NVM, I see you answered at the same time as me.

Perhaps. Maybe that is them facing life. They probably have more memorable experiences than a lot of us. They have no media deceiving them. No worrying about getting fired or how shitty the economy is. Homeless people probably have more unique views on the world and interesting stories than we do.

This thread really makes me laugh. What started out someone bitching about homelessness ended with them getting bitched at by...everyone.

Here is my REAL opinion of it.

Not everything is what it seems to be on the outside. A bearded man who asks you for change doesn't ALWAYS buy booze. Assuming the worst in people in this way is ignorant.
For one, you have probably never bothered to ask one of the 'deadbeats' their name. Never bothered to go so low as to talk to these people you deem so worthless, and yet still assume that they are simply saying 'fuck it' and giving up. How do you know that?

Another point- Who is to say that they don't like that lifestyle? In the city I used to live in, there was ONE homeless man who wondered the streets. He didn't seem completely right in the head, but he was sane, just like you or I would consider ourselves to be. How do I know that? because I've talked to him. Had a conversation, and bought him food...
Food that he didn't accept. He told me he wasn't looking for a pity party, and it was shown that he had no problem with how he was living. I respected that. Point being, not everything is what you think it is. Not everyone with a shopping cart is homeless, not everyone with a protesting sign on the street is crazy.

Everyone needs to learn how to step into other people's places and see exactly what it is like before you judge them in such an extreme way. I can understand not wanting to give your money to someone, but them asking doesnt mean they are a bum. Every alternative lifestyle to yours doesn't make those people any worse than you, and you are certainly no better.

And, to add, thinking that you know what it is like to be in the position of a homeless person is different than being in the position of EVERY homeless person.
I can sense that you are getting pretty defensive, Luna. I mean you absolutely no disrespect at all with my opinion in it, just sharing.
There are soooo many people, each one different. To know one is not knowing all, is it?

And that's fine. I can speak from experience and don't show compassion. 'Tomato, tomato' I guess

Your talking about a section of the homeless population.
The link I gave earlier shows people who are not drunks or addicts..just lucked out.
My friend is on that website.
She told me how difficult things were.
She wasn't wondering around the streets drunk.
    Luckily she recieved some help.

All most, if not all people, are saying is...there are a wide spectrum of people who are homeless - look:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/videonation/feature/nohome/
So you were with some serious bums.
Why paint all homeless people that way?
