I don't know. I've only encountered the circumcised. Women I know that have been with men that are uncircumcised haven't described it in the best of terms. To be honest, women I know, myself included, don't really find just any old penis, circumcised or not, all that attractive unless there's some feelings for the person at attached to it. I can understand that. I doubt that's common for all women, but...I don't know. I find the vagina to be much more attractive. Just me though.
I am a total sex fiend and don't find either very attractive. I slightly prefer the penis though, because it has less variables that can make it ugly (but circumcised penises are nicer looking). But that's speaking more from a porn perspective, since I've only spent good face-time with one penis and one vagina.
There have been three waves of Feminism, the first being women fighting for their voting rights. Right now, Feminism is considered to be in its third wave wherein it is already acknowledged that it is not only women who are oppressed, but men as well. Individuals are oppressed based on their class, race, age and gender. Basically there are many kind of approaches to feminism.. there are people who call themselves social feminists who see he oppression to women as from psychological and social roots. I think that feminism has become flawed because people claim that they are feminists without even having any idea what it is about. When they make mistakes, and say that they did it because they are feminists, it damages the word.
I agree... I don't really find the penis that attractive either unless I like the person who has the penis. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about how vaginas look though.
Exactly. Elijah's post just made me shake my head sadly wondering if he was even serious. It's nice to see that counteracted with some level headed common sense. :2thumbsup:
Word. Correct me if this is not a thread for international feminism, but there are also groups that are still doing ground breaking work in their areas. As organisations go, I'd say DAWN is a good example for that. It's feminists from the "economical South" fighting for women from their areas. So, yeah. Feminism is not obsolete.
I've called myself a feminist for a while now, but lately I'm hesitantly, slowly beginning to doubt if we can push for greater gender equality while still carrying such a divisive and apparently destructive name. The main thing I think about is, why is there not such a convenient label or group for black rights activists? Was it the black panthers? And how well did that go, as opposed to MLK's approach? We have LGBT, but that's not quite as simple or streamlined as "feminism" has been made out to be. We're fighting for all sorts of human rights, for all kinds of different people, but only feminism is a still famous activist label attached to women's rights. Why should we be so specific about women's rights, but not about non-white races or gays/lesbians/transgendered? Actually, come to think of it, gay rights is a pretty specific and politicized movement right now, but that may be only because we are just barely starting to give gays real legal rights. Feminism is much older now. And they don't call themselves gayists. On the other hand, the main reason why I'm still hesitant about giving up on feminism quite yet is because most of the people who criticize it (like the OP), make massively stupid, ignorant and offensive assumptions that most of conservative society likes to perpetuate- like feminists being fat, ugly lesbian hags who hate men, and want women to be BETTER than men. I'm sorry, but anyone with half a brain understands that feminism was NEVER about women being better than men. It was always about men and women being EQUAL, and we still have a ways to go for even that to be a reality. Anti-feminists also seem to forget that we're not living in a post-feminist paradise where nobody is trying to beat back women's rights clear into the 1940's. There's still a need to keep fighting for women's rights because the GOP is on the offense regarding women's health and freedom. The GOP also has its own grip on the media, making "family values" on children's programming that pushes primitive, pre-feminist gender roles on modern children. Soft lullabies and plushy pink toys for girls, aggressive and exciting racing cars for boys. No mixing is represented or encouraged (even though My Little Pony has gained a MASSIVE audience for boys and men, which by the way is amazing, because the new My Little Pony is full of wonderfully empowered and interesting female characters... notice THAT Hollywood execs). There's still also rampant objectification and de-valuation of women, in which you only need to look at the new Superbowl commercials to notice. In the media, when it comes to sex and attraction, only the heterosexual male's point of view is even recognized most of the time. They expect all of America to be attracted to a scantily clad, sultry young model, and show no sexy men (well, there was a male version of the human couch, but that was feeble at best). We also show plenty of older, not-so-eye-candy leading men on TV shows, like Mark Harmon on NCIS, but no older women leads. I saw a commercial for a crime show recently starring a generic pretty young woman (as if all these pretty fresh babes are so tough and wise in the world of law and order), but featuring a new supporting addition of Jane Curtin. She's extremely talented, charismatic, experienced AND attractive for her mature age, kind of like Mark Harmon, yet she's not a lead, and no woman like her on mainstream television or movies is (well, perhaps some cable shows are better). Clearly, these are all symptoms of lingering sexism, and while some may ask why the media is relevent, it clearly affects the psyches of the average American, especially youth, and dictates to them how they should act if they're a certain gender. Still, though, even with many anti-feminists who want real gender equality, many other anti-feminists who are just plain old sexists, and lingering sexism in our society to say nothing of abuse going on in the rest of the world, I guess all of that is STILL no excuse to keep parading under the broken banner of feminism. I've been thinking about this crap and giving myself a headache all day. The most important thing is, when you ask most people, they are completely on board with gender equality, but not for feminism. I think that could be the clincher here.
Since I can't delete my last post, I will say that I take back literally everything I said that was not pro-feminism. I came to my senses.
What people who are anti-third wave feminism believe, is that equality has more or less been reached, or is on the cusp -- and most feminists want more than that. There are a lot out there that are, if not anti-men, are against all things considered masculine, and anything they consider left over from the patriarchal society. Some of those things being natural divisions among the sexes, or based off of natural urges. I mean, some feminists have called for bans of facial porn. Not to mention, petty shit like calling actresses actors. And the thing is; I recognize there are good feminists out there. Some awesome, pro-sex, pretty level-headed people -- but they are still grouping themselves in with the radicals, who may or may not be the majority, but are definitely louder,, by touting themselves as feminists. But that's what the conservatives are pushing for a return to. Gender roles hurt men too. What about the rising trend of stay-at-home dads? They are looked upon by many as not real men, completely useless rejects. But they are doing something that most of the same people would hail about a woman. There is never going to be a complete destruction of gender roles and expectations. Part of the human brain's function is to discriminate among separate things and define them. Create a stigma that makes them usable, manageable concepts. The problem, that many anti-feminists find, is that women are just replacing men, and creating a world that is matriarchal in nature. Women are much more highly valued in liberal America; since the recession, women are getting hired far more than men; and women now have the free choice of being stay at home or a professional, and they will be judged solely by their circle; while either's fine to the majority. Is that objectifying devaluation - or is it glorifying celebration. Women are hot, women are beautiful. I just don't see how that's a bad thing. You're using an example aimed towards males -- they are advertising towards the majority of their audience. How about women's magazines though? Scantily clad women, all over. I was looking through my Playboys and the odd Cosmo or two I have leftover from my brother's fiance. There's more pictures of men in the Playboy! Rising trends in porn focus on the objectification of males, and not by showing them nude. CFNM - where a male gets dominated by a group of females, who are humiliating him, forcing him to eat their pussies/assholes, and gangraping him with dildos. Cuckolding - where a male, usually white, is forced to watch his wife get fucked by another male, usually black, and gets insulted throughout the fucking, at the end, being forced to eat the lover's cum off of her. Both are genres I quite enjoy when I find a rare one that doesn't have the negative vibes -- but both genres (which are snowballing in popularity these past five years or so) are absolutely full of humiliation. Women are sexually empowered; men are slaves to their libidos. 30 Rock, the Good Wife, Community, Parks and Recreation, Mike and Molly, 2 Broke Girls, Unforgettable, Prime Suspect, Cold Case, Desperate Housewives, Glee (I think) -- those are just Primetime Network shows off the top of my head.
You know what I find downright disgusting. If as a person you say, "I don't believe people should be abused.People should have equal opportunity, free speech, equal rights, and equal representation." Many Feminists across the globe will exclaim aloud "OH! That means your a feminist because as a feminist that's what I believe" But who are they to label anyone as a feminist, why is that label being tagged to anyone who wants the world to be fair. Many don't want to be associated with feminism because of moments in time like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIZTKcVKTYs"]Feminist makes false sexual assault allegation and then assaults innocent man - YouTube The cops let her get away with it because if it had been a man pushing a woman like that the cops would have just let him go right? *sarcasm dripping* Feminist preach about equality but then why would a feminist group disrupt a men s rights meeting when all the men wanted to do is make sure they have rights too. I know many feminists will claim that this group is just a bunch of extremists in this case but the fact still remains that they are infringing upon men s rights and there wasn't a single feminist anywhere that spoke out against these women’s actions.
