https://youtu.be/fD3P_l2sZFI ... I'm not much into any variety of science, but when someone asked a renowned Dr why the earth spins, he told her it's so that the earth doesn't get cannibalized by other planets. And i thought... like... WOW! Finally, someone with alphabet soup at the end of his/__/their/her name that says something sciencey that makes a lick of sense!
The dear old doctor is incorrect. The reason Earth spins is because all of the other planets spin. Earth didn't want to be let out.
OMG the universities and colleges are letting these freaking idiots loose with paid-for degrees. Education is not what it used to be, especially in those "Christian' colleges where you get a good dose of the Bible and no science at all...
Even here in Massachusetts scholastic scores are at their lowest A lot of people are blaming the pandemic, but scores were in decline long before the emergence of SARS CoV-2
Any planet forms when a gazillion rocks, pebbles, and grains of sand gradually come together under the influence of their mutual gravity. With all that stuff coming together, most of the motions will cancel out. For most particles heading north, there will be one heading south. For most particles heading east, there will be one heading west. But it is very unlikely that all those motions will exactly cancel out. There will be some that, instead of hitting head-on, will zing right past each other. When that happens (remember that they are still gravitationally attracted to each other), they will curve around and eventually come back for another pass. And miss again. A lot of those interactions will cancel each other out, but what are the odds that they will all exactly cancel out to zero motion? Really, really slim. There will always be some rotational motion left over after all the pieces come together. And that is why all objects in space spin.
Anyone can get a university degree, Christian institution or not, and entirely avoid taking a single class in the physical sciences. It's a personal choice. You don't have to study the bible to avoid science. A degree in accounting has no requirement for studying astrophysics or mineral sciences either. However, many Christian colleges and universities have excellent science programs, Emory and Duke Universities among them. Georgetown University has an excellent medical school, as do many other Christian institutions. If a doctor has the initials "MD" after her name and a degree from Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine on the wall, she had to study and master just as much science as anyone who attended a public university's school of medicine. Baylor University generates more degrees in nursing-related fields, all science-based, than it does in any other. The Bible's not a good resource for scientific inquiry, but you also wouldn't look there for a good recipe for gumbo either. That doesn't stop Baptists and Catholics from having a world-class gumbo cook-off. I took more than one university course led by faculty member who was both Christian clergy and had a PhD in Physics. An excellent professor of physics, his education was entirely from Christian institutions. The two are not mutually exclusive in any way.
