I;m a Philly Girl!! But yeah Harrisburg might as well be Kansas- SOMEBODY BE MY KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR AND RESCUE ME HERE!! As Blanch DuBois so poignantly said, "I've always depended on the kindness of strangers." Oh how I'd love to find a man with whom there would be a mutual attrction, I'd be his muse and he'd be my lover and king, and one and only! and hopefully we'd move way from harrisburg lol!
Pennsylvania does suck...I lived there temporarily when I was in 6th grade. They thought I was from Kosovo for some reason? Friggen idiots
yeah it,s boring most of the time. thats why you,ll find me walking or driving around in a stoned and often druken stupor, or nodding out at the pc. or in the woods with my other hobby dope growing.
Phili seemed like a nice city (The little i saw of it) I discovered 105.3 when i was staying in Devon (WDAS) -- I love that station!!
PA sucks because there are over 60 counties and due to this, local government agencies, within each county, seem to take advantage of it's residents. Corruption runs through-out each, specifically the smaller counties. I know this because I've been subjected to the BS that goes down in a courtroom. In the county I reside, funds/fines are purveyed through DUI arrests, public drunkeness and domestic disputes. Low crime is the norm here, it's a small county. I loath this place but have no means to leave and that sucks. One other fact, the county employs 3 policing agencies ???? In the 80's the town is reside in was a feature in People mag, the article was about the county being the 'caffine capital' in the US...whew I'd love to live off the grid - that's my goal!!
for me my life right now is pretty rough....cant see my girlfriend, dealing with heavy drug addiction, and no job atm, but reading some of the replies on this thread gave me a boost of confidence....the mental mind fuck of drug addiction doesnt have shit on this motherfucker.....seeing the negative replies on this thread really did something positive for me...thanks guys..
I went to Pennsylvania to see the Liberty Bell and the dam thing had a crack in it! Don't they know how to take care of national treasures? The coolest thing about Philly is the Philly cheese steak sandwich, but they make better ones in Jersey (even if they are fake). Second coolest thing about Philly: Edgar Allen Poe had a house there, but it sucks that nobody is donating money to help them fix the old shack up. That place was so spooky looking!
And kudos to the Philadelphia Eagles for sponsoring the Butterfly house across the river in Camden NJ, (right next to the awesome NJ State Aquarium). Of course these facts are possible evidence that New Jersey is better than Pennsylvania, but it muddies the waters when Pennsylvanians cross into Jersey and do great things. Which state gets credit?
One thing I hate most about Pennsyvlania is the weather. It is horrible. Here are some interesting weather events I have observed in my 20 years in PA: 1. It has gotten to -5 degrees F at my house, air temperature. 2. It has gotten to -35 degrees F at my house in windchill...multiple times... 3. It has gotten to 107 degrees F at my house, shade temperature 4. It has gotten to 126 degrees F at my house, heat index 5. It is probably only sunny (not partly cloudy) here in Lancaster County 50 out of 365 days in the year. Even in May and October, the sunniest months, it might only be sunny two days out of the week. 6. It is either overcast or rainy 168 days per yer according to a weather site I just referenced. That is fucking half the year! 7. Between mid-May and late-September, it is almost invariably incredibly humid, like 70 degree dew points. The dew point is often higher in Lancaster than in South Georgia or Florida. 8. In the winter, it is windy continuously, from November to January. Thus, there are two short windows of time when one can actually EXPECT nice weather in Lancaster: 1. Early April through mid June: 60-75 degrees, NOT humid, somewhat sunny. 2. Late September through late October: 55-75 degrees, cool nights, not too humid, usually sunny. So, basically, if you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, dont like ridiculous heat and humidity together, or dont like sub-zero wind chills, don't move to Pennsylvania.
I am okay with visiting PA once in a while, but Dude! Nobody should have to live like that! In your situation, I think I would live in the mountains in summer rather than sweat it out in Philly. Even the Jersey shore is a better place to spend the summer. Then I'd be on the first bus to south Florida when the last autumn leaf has fallen from the trees and be back in your mountain home when the spring flowers are blooming in the woods.
the cities in PA aren't bad but when you get into the more rural places it is so shitty.I grew up and still live in bumfucked Greene County. There's absolutely nothing to do unless you want to be a mall rat. You can't even safely swim in the river anymore because it's so nasty. My friends and I always call the Monongahaela shit river, because it's so dirty. I swam in it once and ended up with a huge gash on my leg because of some pipe underwater. Ohiopyle is awesome, up in the Laurel Highlands. It's clean and fun but like an hour away from me. The winter is like death here though. There really is like NOTHING to do. Especially if your outdoorsy like me
Winter suggestions: Ice fishing? hitch the dogs up to a sled and go riding across the snowy hills? ice sculpture? get baking hot in your wood-fired sauna and roll naked in the snow and return to sauna. snow camping Ski resort? Hang out in lodge hot tub and drink hot chocolate in front of fire? Go to Puxatawny and wait for Pete to come out of his hole?
Went to 7 Springs once and ended up in tears, it was not a good experience.. however all of those would sound nice if I lived in Alaska
I don't know everyone... I've been born and raised in PA. Lived here my whole life and all over the state. It's really a great place in my opinion. Yeah the weather at times can be shitty and the whole commonwealth thing sucks. But we have a beautiful state with so much to do if you're and outdoors person and so much to do if you aren't. You at times just have to down for a little travel. Currently I'm living right outside Pittsburgh been here for 3 years now after moving here from Philly were I lived for about 5 years. I find so much to do and meet great people everyday. I personally love PA, but hey that's just me...
I live out in the sticks here in beaver county. There's probably 5-10.cool people in the whole county. The rest are a bunch of hicks. It is nice here. Everything is green and there are so many animals around. Just wish there weren't so many docks here.
