you go into the stores and you see the various displays cropping up. you know it is coming, you cannot escape. I am thinking of various things on how I can escape Christmas this year. The less I see or hear about Christmas the better. Why does it have to come every year? Why cant it just come once in awhile? That would be way cooler..say, once every 10 years..then Christmas would mean something. Jesus was not even born on December 25th, it is just the beginning of the winter solstice, Christians were recruiting pagans and wala Christmas became..sometimes banned by countries, it is in full swing here in America..EVERYBODY celebrates it! I hate it! Is it possible to get a divorce from Christmas?

It's true that Christmas is all pagan allegory, since the sun/"son" is at its lowest point in the sky on December 21st. For three days it "hangs" at this point in the sky known as the southern cross. It doesn't begin to rise 1 degree until the 24th/25th, hence the rebirth of the sun god we call Jesus Christ. People think they're celebrating a Christian holiday, when in reality they're celebrating an ancient pagan sun ritual that goes back to the Babylonian priesthoods. Easter is another "Christian"/pagan holiday which has everything to do with the coming of Spring and fertility.
I think it's fair to say they have become and have now been christian for a long time. Actually it's only now (for the last few decades) that it has grown so out of proportion commercially-wise that it could be considered partly christian off I mean how many people are celebrating christmass with all their heart but are more focussed on Santa Clause and presents than baby Jesus or the new sun. Either way, for centuries it has been more christian than pagan, even though it still has pagan elements.
Most people I know just think that they're just hanging out with family, nobody really pays attention to the reason behind it. I don't really know anyone who sees it as anything other than an excuse to take some time off, give gifts, and eat and drink.
I know a lot of people who still celebrate it in the christian tradition. Christmass seems to be also the day for a lot of people to go to church just once a year. But for the most it is about having time off indeed and celebrating that it's a holiday with family/friends and sharing gifts here as well.
I don't care what it is to anybody. I was just explaining the roots behind it. Me, personally, I could take it or leave it.
The paid holidays are one good thing, plus the holiday bonus, considering it's a bonus and not a bone-us.
I like it and I find it interesting too that it is different regarded and celebrated in now total different ways but it all still has connections. As usual though the american version has become the most cheesy
