We haven't managed to get off the grid, Snowtiggernd. But, we have the wilderness.. forests.. springs.. creeks.. etc.

Still trying to decide whether to start up the commune again or sell this farm and go do something else. One of the main problems with adding to the commune is our 'out in the boonies' location. Like someone else already mentioned... joining a commune or starting one requires LOTS of visits to get to know the people involved. More travel required than most are willing to do.

And then there's the amount of work involved with growing one's own food. It IS work. Physical labor. We average two to three hours a day with outside work. It isn't THAT much work if you love doing it, but city people soon grow restless.
