    1. To relieve sexual tension - I get horny and just feel like I need to cum.
    2. Because it feels fantastic.
    3. Because it is healthy, including lowering risk of prostate cancer.

    To be fair anything that leads to orgasm would quality for all of the above and certainly I take sex when it is on offer and masturbate when it isn't. For all that I don't see masturbation as a "runner up prize" - it is a valid form of sexual expression in it's own right such that even when I had almost daily sex I still did it about once/week.
