Actually the downfall of society is deeply tied into our collective impulse to blame someone and hold them responsible for what's gone wrong with us instead of taking ownership in our role in it and acting as our own advocates... so the blaming obesity for the downfall of society does not chronicle the truth but it sure as hell demonstrates it.

Sometimes I fear doing this exact thing on this forum. People are rather rude about blunt statements of the way people feel about things, but I on the other hand I love to hear about how others feel.

(my opinion probably pertains mostly to america)
I guess if we are attacking things that could possibly kill us one day, then we should think about our food in general and its heath value. Just buying things at the grocery store, unless its Whole Foods or something of that nature, could eventually kill us one day. Half of the ingredients they put in our food are extremely unnatural. All the shit they inject in chickens makes them so large their own legs can't pick them up.

How do you know this kind of shit isn't giving us cancer or other health problems. Just like sweet and low.....and I have had a lot of sweet and low. There are so many factors in this life and this society that could eventually kill us it just might not be as noticeable as smoking. Half the time we have no idea what causes cancer in the first place...but it kills many.
I read an article once about the amount of bleach in womens tampons causes cancer after so many years of use.

So really we are all killing ourselves slowly.

I also think its worth differentiating obesity from a true abuse of the system.

Nobody is consciously thinking "I'm going to shitty food, put on a few hundred pounds, and totally use an obscenely disproportionate amount of the health care budget because its free."

People are arguably obese because of poor choices, but it certainly isn't malice.

What, you don't get unlimited nights and weekends? You should consider changing your service provider.

Maybe the saying should be, "everyone cast stones, except he who is without sin."

For what reason would a sinless man cast stones? He would be happy and free.

    Lets just cast stones.

Don't start me up. I could go on all day.

That is true that most would rather blame than own up. I wouldn't dreeeeeam of blaming anyone for the state of my life and for my choices. Luckily, I get this, but my sarcasm is mistaken for the rantings of a bitter woman not able to wear a bikini. So many people are so well trained in blaming that they inflict it upon themselves if there aren't any fat people around, too.:)

Never be afraid to voice your opinions! They're all you've got. Those who don't are never heard. Fuck how other people react. They're your opinions. The only thing that matters is how you feel about them. If others don't like them, too bad. If they're terrible you might be asked to leave, but if they're decent (or even if they're bad) you might have an interesting conversation.

In my experience people are only ever rude if they don't like your opinion because it clashes with their current version of reality. They're afraid when a question is raised because with a question there's always room to be wrong.

These forums are here for that exact purpose. Voice your opinions. :)

Ah, perhaps then he is envious of those who are bad? Then he is not without sin!

My brother wasn't consciously thinking "I'm just going to fall from this balcony and become a quad so I can drain the system out of millions of dollars throughout my life."

Sometimes, the (usually) poor obese person doesn't have very good choices, either. Example: Red, yellow and orange peppers at my local Safeway $2.99 EACH!!! Crappy Budget Gourmet meals 10 for $10.00.

My friend used to get WIC. She got a shit ton of grains, canned juice and cheese, but her fresh fruit and veggie allowance was $6.00 for the whole month. Why is this if they want people to not be a burden on the healthcare system?

Because whether it's a drain on the system through obesity, smoking, teen pregnancy etc. somebody SOMEWHERE is making money off of both sides. One side of the system drains, so does that mean the other side is filling up and I'm being encouraged to be unhealthy by those whose side is full?

That ran on longer than some wild horses I've seen. Those beasts of burden. It's unfortuanate that you can't always get what you want, the world would be a better place. Maybe in another land. Others would see this if only they'd shine a light. Unfortunately time waits for no one, though I think time is on my side.
