I can't figure it out. Is it because the resin balls you scrape out look like something that came from the toilet? That's my best guess.
Well, here's one idea: http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=pot not sure if that's accurate, though. Interesting at least.
potiguaya looks right but id have gone with the fact that its the 'pot plant' probably. makes sense that its mexican word though, caus marijuana comes formteh mexican spelling marihuana
"marihuana" is the anglicized version of "marijuana", the mexican word. J's in spanish are said like h's, so when english speakers translated the word, they changed the j to an h.
so then why was it changed back again? i gues marihuana works better with propaganda.. makes it sound more sinister and hispanic
marihuana is still considered an acceptable english spelling, but marijuana is also now the proper english word as well as spanish word. the "h" spelling as far as i know, hasn't been the most common one since the 50s when more and more people became familiar with the drug. the spelling "marihuana" while acceptible, is just somewhat archaic these days....not in widespread use. when i had to write a paper about it for highschool i decided to spell it marihuana the whole way through the paper just to throw people off. couldn't have points deducted for spelling cause it was correct and still in the dictionary, even if it's been out of favor for the past handful of decades....
