Why Do Some Atheists Read bibles

Some atheists seem to know a lot about whats written in religious bibles.why would an atheist be interested in whats written in bibles ?

 

It's better to have an opinion about something and be well-informed on what it is you're actually talking about then it is to not know a single thing about it.

2 Searching for statements to criticize
3 Impress upon others, how deep they have studied and then formed their opinion
4 Attention seeking

Either of these or combination thereof.

 

is that because they feel weak in their own convictions ? why would they care ?

 

curiosity sounds plausible enough i suppose.but the rest sound like pretty dumb and lame reasons.

Some atheists were forced to read the bible for many years in their youth, and logically concluded the bible is just a big fictional horror story, hence the atheism.

Why would you be an Atheist if you hadn't read (or at least become very familiar with) the Bible?? How would you know that you were an atheist?

We are all born atheist, religion is taught by parents and other authority.
I consider it tantamount to child abuse.

i guess if you forced ta read bibles it understandable.but then would'nt the bible be the last thing some athiests would want ta read again ?

 

A monoculture existed in the american interior coming to it's peak in the fifties and biblio/religious concepts are/were subconsciously adopted whether you actually read the bible or not.
For example a popularly repeated phrase in childhood from none that I know of ever setting foot in a church, good christians don't swear as a correction for foul language.

 

through other forms of communication as well i suppose, people could base it on.

 

A lot of people's parents made them go to church when they were younger but don't end up believing in God/Christianity/whatever.... but you still end up with a lot of biblical knowledge.

We are all born devoted to our good and parents seem good instruction. Some don't know what they are doing.

 

Some regard the bible as a historical document.

Why are we taught Greek mythology in school? Learning about history, even in a religious context , broadens the mind.

A lot of atheists were probably just raised in a Christian home. I'm not a Christian now but I've read the bible in its entirety because I was raised on it.

 

i have a friend that calls himself an atheist,but thats about it.he just says cos he don't believe in any god,but thats it.he's happy in his own convictions and could'nt care less what anyone else thinks about it.
