Yes, unfortunately people tend to label all different types among those who have turned their backs on society as hippies. It never occurred to them that the Weathermen weren't hippies, they had crossed the line. While many hippies actively protested the war in Vietnam (and Iraq today), they used non-violent demonstrations to carry their message, resorting to violence only when provoked. The Weathermen and others like them didn't have the patience for that and felt it was time for armed struggle. They failed miserably, and ultimately the war was brought to an end as more and more mainstream Americans came out against it.

 

I only know a few people who actively dislike hippies, and that is because they see hippies as idealistic, and they think that hippies are "happy all the time", which is obviously not true. Positive thinking and an accepting lifestyle does NOT mean that you don't feel every emotion that everyone else feels, including anger, sadness, disappointment, etc.

As for being idealistic - someone has to be. That's the only way things are going to improve in the world, when people start thinking outside societies barriers, and discover that maybe there IS a better way to handle things and a better way to live life.

I think that they envy that we do what we want, and because we are generally happy with our lives. I find people have the same reaction to Canada. Both of which upset me…. When have we bothered anyone?

 

Ignorant People with low self-esteem always look for someone that they think is worse then they are to make themselves seem more important. The hate groups are full of them...

 

You can go on and on about how people are narrow minded, but the fact is they don't like hippies because it goes against what some people believe.

People hate people. Period.

I'm a hippie. I go barefoot. I let my hair grow. I wear shirts that let my bellybutton show. I live my life for me. People seem to hate the fact that I'm happy and relaxed while they're uptight and stressed.

 

I hate MOST Hippies, not all, but MOST. Mostly because most hippies are too damn nice, don't kill that, don't kill this, peace and love, BS. I mean, as far as I know, the Hippie outlook on sex is fine, but on living life, I think it's wrong, most Hippies are against war, they're against the " system " and they're high 80% of the time.


The Hippies I like are the hippies that have decent jobs and aren't against violence, doesn't mean hippies are for violence just means they don't care.

I hate hippies who protest about trees and all the BS. I also don't like Hippies who are basically bums.

Hippies can be cool girls and dudes, but only if they don't go too far.

Basically, if you have a decent job, don't bitch about how bad war, violence and the " system " is, all the time ( I bitch about the system sometimes too, but not every day ) and basically don't try to pull you in to the Hppie lifestyle, I have some freinds who are hardcore hippies, they listen to all the hippie music, smoke lots of pot, like a quarter of the time, and are great to hang out with, but don't take it too far and aren't lazy ass bums.

 

It is mainstream to hate hippies. I say most who do are ignorant, and follow, believe and listen to stereotypes like all hippies are stoners, poor, jobless, lazy, unrealistic and whatnot. Plus the wealthy and powerful people against hippies have managed to paint a negative image of hippies using the media.

Its just a guess (I dont hate hippies BTW) but I would say non-hippies might feel that hippies are full of shit and havent got a grip on reality. They might think Most hippies are probably a bit lazy and dont go to work because they get too stoned, but then blame society for keeping them unemployed. Also there might be some jealousy going on there because norms drive around in big flashy cars but I guess hippies are too poor and have to walk, cycle, or catch a bus. So it may not be all the norms fault as hippies also smoke a lot of dope and get paranoid about everyone hating them.
However, most stoners that I know are a bit smelly as well as they dont bath very often because the quite often run out of money to put in the gas meter or leccy box.
So they cant heat the water. Also Hippies seem to appear out of nowhere and ask for money, by holding up placards saying "I'm poor help me", and dont tell me I'm wrong on this I KNOW its true as I have friends who know these people in london, really they arent homeless at all but beg to afford beer wine and dope.
Maybe thats why norms hate them cuz they smell and sponge off everyone
and generally their clothes are tattered and they make the town look a bit bleak because of it

 

Hippies are ushering in a new world order, and that scares Western governments. The Western world fears chaos and the radical ideas of hippies may seem to be a threat to stablity. Only in the West are hippies even tolerated. Hippies are the end result of any system that espouses individual freedom and liberty. You would be shot for criticizing the government in many nations.

 

People don`t hate hippies.

They just hate you.
