Why do looks matter the most in an relationship?

This is my personal opinion. I think that looks are so important to us when we are choosing an partner is because we want to show off to our friends and other people how beautiful our partner is. Imagine if you be the last man/girl on this planet who would you choose an beautiful partner to whom you are attracted by the looks or with someone who shares the same interests and activities as you and you can have deep conversations with him/her.

 

I've tried to read this 5 times and don't understand it. I would pick someone that is literate over someone with good looks.

 

Yeah I like sweetness and connection with my partner. Looks are nice but they don't make or break it. Honestly, if I focused on looks as a primary concern, I would probably end up very miserable >.<

 

My wife and I's relationship has never been based off of looks. Also if I was the last man on the planet I'd be lookin' for a woman who would make a good mom. After all we'd be the one's repopulating and reteaching humanity.

I think looks only really matter a lot for hook ups. There's likely going to be SOME sort of attraction in the beginning of a relationship. In the end, it will (hopefully) be their personality that will make or break things.

I don't think looks are the most important thing. I think we tend to date those who hover around our "level" of attractiveness.

Say that, on a scale of 1-10, I am a 5. I probably won't date a man who is a "10" (although it might happen, there are other variables). On the other hand, I probably won't end up dating a "2" either. I think most people can objectively determine attractiveness levels with a fair amount of accuracy. Most extremely attractive people won't really seek out the less attractive, and most very unattractive people won't try and date the ravishing.

are we assuming if only one dude is left that all the woman are still around and i'd have my pick?.....

his theory of showing off to my buddies kinda goes out the window if all my buddies are dead.....who am I going to to show her off to?

I would feel pretty goddamned stupid picking her only to find out that every other woman on earth was less bitchy

also all women hate better looking women.....so you'd make a lot of enemies by going the trophy wife route

There are certain traights I avoid, but most of those are personality flaws. I shy from skinny girls as well.

looks are important to us when we are choosing a partner because we want a partner that is attractive to us. and when you first meet someone, looks are the only trait you have to judge attractiveness based on.

if i were the last man on the planet and all the women still somehow remained, i would easily be able to find a physically beautiful woman who shares my interests.

in the event that you are the last male, why choose one to repopulate? that's gonna take some time

HOWEVER, naturally you are going to cause inbreeding over time - and thus the smart factor goes out the window.

Most logical could be to bang everything that moves, hope that the genetic diversity is strong enough and be the king of the world.

vainity in man is one a the things that would put me right off a man.vanity and egotistical stuff.in my expereince all beauty is only skin deep if it don'nt follow on to the insides of people in men or women.and everyone has value an worth,cos everyone is special,cos theres only one of every whole human being in the whole world.so that makes every indivdual person in the whole world unique.just like our fingerprints.
