I got a pizza last night and it came with a little table in the middle of it. What gives? You can't eat on it.

So the steam from inside the pizza can make the pizza box sag, and if the cardboard touches the pizza, half the cheese and stuff might stick to the cardboard.
    .
Those little plastic things are supposed to prevent the pizza from touching the top of the pizza box.

no one uses them here but first guy is right its to stop the cheap thin box from touching the top of the pizza ...its especially good to have when they are stacking them for multiple deliveries

I never got one of those table things. Mine always comes with a pepperoncini pepper, just one for some reason.

    You're confused. It's not a little table.

It's a gentle reminder to eat your pizza at the table, rather than on your belly whilst you're lying on the sofa watching tv ;)

I'll take it! Maybe the family of mice I can't get rid of can use it and build themselves tiny chairs on which to sit whilst they munch happily on my gyad damn generic doritos corn ships!!

Or those weird dark chocolate covered stollen bites I bought that they no longer want to eat.

(I saw they chewed into a bag and started eating them, so I started using it as bait, but now they want no part of it. And after eating one, neither do I) :D

I remember a place here in Montreal that made their pizzas like that, with a round bun of plain dough in the middle, called Five Corners pizzeria.

I always made sure to grab it. ;)

the little table is so elves can eat the crumbs that you drop without getting them on the floor. its actually a nice size for a 1/4" scale picnic table.
i would order pizzas just to collect them if they were something less expensive and i liked more.

in a slightly larger scale, of an inch to the foot, a common size for fassion dolls and the smallest size of ride on trains, they make a nice little hassoc for someone that size to sit on.

i suppose the actual reason they're there, is to keep the middle of the top of the box from smooshing into the pizza, when multiple stacks of them are delivered to a party.

You're not far from the mark. They are indeed tables for Rodent-Americans (formerly rats and mice). It came about in the 80s when a group of college students in Ohio realized that after a big party the poor little Rodent-Americans had to drag the leftover pizza crusts across the room because the tables made for humans were imposingly large. Congress agreed that it was creating a discriminatory atmosphere against a distinctive group. While most of them go unused, the thinking was that if only 1 Rodent-American was served by having a free table, then it was all worth it.
