When I was a kid the only thing that mattered was if the game was cool. If it is fun you can be a girl or a boy or even a purple alien with no gender. That has changed with the incel and white supremacist communities deciding to get involved. The racists are targeting the interests of young men who stereotypicaly are not the types to be popular a so called "nerd" culture. One of these is the video gamer. They have also famously made sure to have their own metal and punk record labels since punks and metal heads are the type to be outsiders and pissed off. Now the new generation is bringing a lot of political views themselves into what is supposed to be a fun hobby. Now if a game has women it's a "political agenda". If the game has you killing Nazis it's a politcal agenda. Well no shit Sherlock the Nazis are a bad politcal party. It used to be fun to kill zombie versions of them then you decided to be one. I've seen plenty of Swastikas too in any online game that lets you have a custom avatar. Edgy teens are so edgy. It's either that or they believe it which is sadder. I play games to save the world. I like to be the good guy even in a RPG where I can do anything. It just makes me sad. Gaming is for everyone and it's fun. It's is extra satisfying though to beat them in the game. I have that at least. People online are dicks. In other news water is wet. https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/...in-the-new-colossus-is-racist-to-white-people
Ruined in the sense that I worry games are now made to satisfy these people. Like instead of wanting the controversy of interesting topics it will all be white guy superhero stories. It does not affect my abilty to buy anything.
So I am these things? If you as a white guy feel qualified to say how other types of people feel that's fine. I just repeat what those other type of people say since I see the same thing too. Race is an issue as long as people like you say is not. It is the root cause for so much in America. In the end yeah it's only a few genes in thousands but it's an excuse for so much and denying it is also an excuse. When that's gone I guess some of the socioeconomic things can be addressed. Like there is a reason why the KKK was a Democratic thing for a while yet now black and Latin vote for Democrats is so high compared to Republicans now. It's not because they are stupid it's because they probably would rather be with people who patronize them (according to Republicans) now compared to people who hate them.
I'm not worried about that at all. Although I really like this alternative history setting and the Duke Nukem like protagonist (although he's russian: B.J. Blaskovitz ) who does not only loves to kill nazis but also constantly makes remarks about it, I also wouldn't mind a game with a story line from the perspective of the baddies. At first instance. It would be interesting how it would get received (by all 'sides'). Ideally it would not be set in present day reality A historic setting is better, or alt history (as long as its clear for the history noobs its fantasy ). Why not.
Again, you got it backwards. Race is an issue as long as people like you say that it is. Other "types"? There is only one type.
So what does that say about non-white people? They must believe my white lie. I told them racism was a thing and they all believe me. Like as a whole among millions of people for decades just cause we told them? Seems kind of insulting to their brain power but you are a white guy I'm sure you know for them.
I agree with the Vice article, and with @unfocusedanakin. I think it's perfectly fine for a video game to thrash nazi and white supremacy. We need more of that!!
Racism is definitely a thing...you exhibit it perfectly. I'm sure "other types" of people appreciate it.
So this is where you pick apart what other types is and ignore everything else? Other types=various other combos of person not white with penis. I think we both know it's not some sort of racial statement.
I'm sure your high calibre morals and genius IQ would have loads of fun with this game where you can talk with a sweet fantasy community in your own personal safe space.
This is a subject that has been brought a few times. Still can't accept the fact that people want play as Confederates and Nazis in historical games. Another perpetuated individual moral wished to be envoked upon the entire population. Meanwhile the basis of early strategic turn based games which dominated early video games in the 90s were highly revolved around WW2 between Panzer General, Steel Panthers etc and he's going to tell us about how it was different "back in my day" and a non issue? Please. These games paved the way for modern gaming, nothing has changed and people haven't changed.
Games are for trash talk too. I don't really think of them as a safe space. More like a place where I would hope even though we are breaking balls we are not openly in support of killing a race of people or racism in general. I've heard and said a lot of things during a game that all just fun. No feelings are hurt. The best male friends say the meanest things possible. Like before your issues seems to be that you want a society that is free to support lessons we already learned in history. Your feathers seem a little ruffled and in need of some safe space over the idea that I am anti-fascist in general. You are not. Some people don't like democracy as you said. And you for a bit upset I was judging and challenging of that. You can get banned from online play for having racist things on avatars. So it's clearly something the game makers want to police too. The whole safe space thing is an excuse for empathy now in my opinion. Like yes people can take it extreme and not even allow debate on college campuses for example. But, in general we can have some moral and ethical lines in society. There is nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with caring for other people.
Like I think I said before I have no issue with Nazis in games in the historical sense. I just don't see them as some anti PC statement like you seem to. I don't like them they are just there and yes sometimes I played as them.
