I would replace the word religion with something like 'any ideology or conviction that makes people feel they can do bad things because they feel overly right'. After making the generalisation more accurate (by not limiting it to just a particuar kind of ideology one happens to dislike) I wouldn't just take it out on the conviction or ideology just like that either.
First see how others with such an ideology act on it, and when it appears it is only a minority who acts dubious because of it find out what makes them do so. There's usually another reason that makes people reach for extreme actions. Which is only logical to conclude when we notice the majority that are part of such an ideology does not act dubious because of it.
If we can't or won't make these distinctions it is very likely the ones making generalized assumptions about these followers of a particular ideology (like a religion for example) based on the generalisation 'it takes religion to make good men do bad things' are also people who feel overly right because of their own particular ideology and are just as likely to act dubiously on it. I think Chinacat sees this as well, and has concluded partly because of it that atheism is just another kind of ideology that equals religion. It doesn't of course make it literally a religion, as most of us already concluded.
But yeah it is pretty much evident not only religion makes good men do bad things :p I agree with the last sentence in your quote though: often it does takes that devotion to an ideal (or an overly strong conviction that one is right) that makes people do the most atrocious things.

Atheists very seldom mount armed attacks on individuals or countries. That's a plus, I think.

It takes devotion to Atheism as an ideal to be that immoral . When atheism is not
an ideal , well , it's describes an insignificant though factual nothingness .

Unfortunately, most Atheists would like to see the end of Religion, and some are practically Missionaries. Reference the billboard in the OP. If Atheists really just didn't care, they would just not go to Church. They wouldn't go out of their way to encourage people to not go to Church.

We've gone over this bullshit countless times.

These are cults of personality. Atheism itself is benign and irrelevant and has nothing to do with any Stalinistic ignorances and agendas. NOT believing in any GOD or ANYTHING does NOTHING to create any agenda fundamentally based on that NOTHING! It just happens that cults of personality project all their bias, ignorance and faith into a person instead of a God. Stalinistic evils have NOTHING to do with atheism and everything to do with Stalinism!

With atheism there is simply no lie to be. BeLIEf requires an actual ignorance (LIE) to BE about SOMETHING. The fact that YOU can't prove some irrational SHIT to me, does not make me a liar. You be the liar, about your shit. I have no shit, ZERO fucking shit, to lie about, when it comes to God.

    ZERO!

    ZERO SHIT!

    Get YOUR shit together.

Yes, we've gone over this a lot, but you atheists keep bringing it up. Christianity is responsible for anything any nut job does in its name, but mass murders by atheists are just aberrations perpetrated by quirky individuals. Stalinism was rooted in a thoroughly atheistic ideology known as dialectical materialism, which was supposed to be based on "scientific" principles. And it wasn't just Stalin. Every time atheist regimes have gotten power, the results have been the same, whehter it be Robespierre, Lennin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, the Korean Kims, or the Castro Brothers. The killings have been far more recent and on a larger scale than than anything Christians have done in the name of Christianity since the seventeenth century. Do I think atheism is responsible? Not at all, but neither are "Christians"responsible for the butcheries sponsored by "Christian" leaders. There is absolutely nothing in the teachings of Jesus that would justify mass killings--quite the opposite. The transformation of the Prince of Peace into General Jesus was a Roman thing brought about by Constantine and the corruptive influence of power, same as you say about atheism. Your double standard is showing.

Then referencing the OP again, Atheists should mind your damn business regarding whether people go to Church or not.

    Athieism is irrelevant ...

When speaking with a religious person , a flowing language of
    philosophy relates .

It's actually a manual as the title says, and he presents a very novel approach to discussions with those who use faith in their lives. It's a kind of intervention strategy based on science and good will. You can google it to learn more, the style of disourse he teaches he calls Street Epistemology.

Blaming atheism for what these dictators did because they were all atheists is like blaming mustaches for what they did because they all had mustaches. Dialectical materialism is not atheism. It is dialectical materialism; it's a whole umbrella of other positions and concepts, as well as not including the nationalistic religion that these dictators all belonged to. In Christianity, you CAN find ways to justify horrible acts; that's why it's so freaking common! These people aren't misunderstanding scripture; they are selecting those passages which serve their needs best. The fact that those passages even exist, in any context at all, speaks extremely badly for christianity and its holy texts. Every time atheist regimes have gotten power it's been bad? How about every time ANY regime has gotten power it's been bad.

"Do I think atheism is responsible? Not at all" then why do you keep dishonestly bringing this point up over and over?

We don't need to quibble about whether or not murderous dictatorships are truly following the atheist bible or not because there is no atheist bible. There is no manual, no central dogma, no governing body, no set of morals or values to hold, no beliefs to believe, and no requirements. Atheism is not responsible for the murderous acts of these people because atheism is a null set; it is lack of a belief in a deity. As soon as you add a second proposition, such as "And also those who disagree with us should be murdered", you are no longer being only atheist, you are being something else, because you had to derive your further conclussions from somewhere else.

Let me guess, all the bad christians are mistakenly reading the Old Testament when they should be ignoring it and focusing on the New Testatment?
