Why are you voting for Bush?

He has improved the education system with the No Child Left Behind Act, As a student, I would have to disagree with you there. protected us from terrorists with the Patriot Act How can you protect yourself from "terrorists" when you yourself are a terrorist? improved the economy by giving tax relief to people Unequal tax relief to SOME people and corporations. You should have emphasized "corporations" He believes in traditional values and prays all the time. How do you know this? Because he says it? You shouldn't mix church and state. Christianity isn't the only religion in existance.

 

What "fanatical religious belief" would that be? That puncturing an unborn child's skull and sucking out the brains should not be allowed for nebulous "health" reasons? Tell me where the Constitution upholds this court-contrived barbarism.

What to me seems wrong is not wanting to find out why people want abortions? What is even worse is making judgement not on the true understanding of reality but due solely on religious belief. Such people have taken a complex problem and reduced it to a simple reason (as in so many things), people that want abortions are sinners, just immoral sinners that have got to that point because of their pure lust for hedonistic pleasures.

Huck, it has become perfectly clear to me and others that you have no real desire to understand people or help them in any real or rational way. That your driving force and agenda are religiously based and that for that reason you are more interested in saving souls for the next world than you are in helping people in this one.

That conservative religious agenda finds the normal priorities of politics, social, economic and cultural factors, very much secondary even unimportant.

Think about it why should they be?

This planet this world we human beings inhabit is just a temporary staging post to eternity, and when rapture or judgement day (or whatever) comes they’re out of here. They see their mission primarily to save us for that (if we want to be or not). It is not to save us from pollution, or the exploitation by the rich, what does matter is following their code willingly or through cohesion and being saved.

I voted for Bush yesterday, as did my husband, uncle, and grandparents, because of one issue in particular: I know that thousands of people have died in Iraq, but over 42 million americans have died since Roe V Wade. So I voted for the guy who opposed abortion. I believe that since you can hear a baby's heart beating 5 weeks after conception, that there is no argument that will convince me that it is right to kill them. Thank you and good night.

I know that im coming into the ballgame way late, but to go back to the first post where someone said they were voting for Bush because he has helped our education through the No Child Left Behind Act is the funniest thing i have ever heard.

Take New York for example- we have to suffer through mandatory regents exams every year. These tests are a complete waste of state money. all they do is curve the lowest grades up by 20-30 points and curve the top grades down to make it look like everyone is the same as everyone else. A kid can get 40% of the material correct on these tests but recieve a 65 and pass because of the horendus curve that the test has.

No Child Left Behind is a stupid law as it keeps the smart kids from excelling, and the dumb kids from learning. It just finds a way to make their scores inflate.

 

Well New York is taking the pussy way out, you're not supposed to curve scores up and down, it defeats the purpose of the test.

 

So I guess school districts in less-priviledged areas, who are already unable to adequately educate due to lack of resources, should just let the Federal Government take away all funding. That really helps.
I like to call it the "Poor Child Left Behid Act".

 

Someone from Colorado is talking about poor children left behind.....hahaha. Take a look at New York, practically every child is left behind, the whole city education system is in shambles. Theres too many kids, most are poor who cant get a good education, if any education down there. No Child Left Behind isnt the answer, more teachers are the answer. The act is just an excuse for Bush to hide the fact that there are extreme teacher shortages across the country. What the kids in NY dont need is funding for the No Child Left Behind Act, they need funding for public assistance and food stamps.

The court has upheld that a 'potential life' is not a protected life. Period. If the 'potential life' is not viable as a unit outside the mothers body then it is just a part of the womans body. Until that is overturned, that is the law. Like it or not.

The precise reasoning for the challenges however stem from the health of the mother. The laws do not protect the health of the mother. You can't claim to be pro-life and then pass a law which endagers the lives of the mother and her unborn child.

PhluffHead - I know, I know... why do you think I live in Colorado? I have lived in St. Louis, Chicago, Denver and breifly in New York. I know that this act is hurting them much more than it is hurting Colorado, but we do have a very high hispanic population and these children are expected to reach the same levels as englich speaking children. I rural areas kids may soon be riding the bus for up to two hours since some schools will inevitably be closed.

 

As I've already pointed out, the ban included an exception to protect the mother's life. A "health" exception would completely gut the ban. This Doe v. Bolton decree is just as constitutionally baseless as its companion Roe v. Wade ruling:

So then you should agree with me when I say that the No Child Left Behind Law is bogus. Federal and state education money should be used on this stupid law to get all kids to be the same when not even all the kids can attend a school in the first place.

 

As I have already stated, I am not a constitutional scholar; but if this discussion is ever going to go anywhere, we will have to examine this in a different way.

LOL! You anti-Bushies can't even agree on the number of Iraqi casualties, so why should anyone believe you?! If we believe one number, we say that the others are inaccurate. But wait, why not believe a different number? One person says 3,000, one says 20,000, one says 100,000... They can't ALL be right.

I voted Bush because Kerry stands for (and has voted 51 times for) the eradication of the right to keep and bear arms.

Good and bad will happen to a country. But no country's government has the right to take away the means of defense from the citizenry. Some day, things might be so bad that we do actually have to take up arms against the Power again, and like it or not, that will require the use of violent force, meaning GUNS. If by that time, we have allowed "well-meaning" but ignorant people like Kerry to disarm us, we'll be well and truly fucked as far as our ability to fight for our freedom.

Bush stands in favor of the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms. That's why he won my vote.

Wow, I'm the exact opposite. His stance on terror is ridiculous. You are not in the perilous danger he tells you you are. Iraq had its problems, but Americans invaded Iraq UNPROVOKED. Saddam had stopped his evil deeds so that there would be no reason for the UN to complain. But leave it to the Americans....and what's Bush's policy on dealing with the UN? To ignore them? All his foreign policy is pretty much sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. Cutting taxes leaves the starving and poor to fend for themselves even more. Gays have every right to get married, and how dare you tell them they can't. His oil policies are ridiculous too. He wants to increase production and shipping as opposed to find ways to make oil consumption more effecient. Oil is a non-renewable resource, one that will dissappear within our lifetime. The space program is a waste of time, there are much more important issues to attend to.

But I agree that stem-cell research should not go forward. Yes, it would be nice to advance technically, but it really just wastes valuable funds on something that most likely won't have a break-thru in our lifetime, and al;l it really does is slightly help useless people, who are still useless after receiving any treatment, and it really just holds the rest of us back.
