I'm sorry is there some kind of law about this?

  2. My daughter is 15 and she hates shorty shorts, she prefers cargo shorts that go to her knees. She even asked me to buy her swim trunks to wear over her bathing suit. While in might be the norm for girls to wear shorter shorts than boys, no one says they have to.

Biggest complaint I hear from both teen girls and adult women are the pockets. Either too small of the pockets or lacks pockets.

I don't think this is entirely true. I see guys out jogging in shorts that are just about as short as female joggers are wearing.
One thing that really stands out as far as gender differences go is bathing suits. Nowadays its minimal swimwear for women, and long, long trunks for men. Not always like that-men and boys wore much shorter trunks in the past, notice tbat in older movies and tv shows.
I have heard that brief swimsuits on men is associated with gay male culture-and one thing macho straight men are terrified of is someone thinking they might be gay!
Understand thats not so much the attitude in Europe. But then Europeans seem to be much more open minded about nude beaches. Here you read about some woman getting arrested and handcuffed for wearing a thong bikini to a public beach! Yes, some places actually ban them.

Let's face it--aside from overly religious or bluenose people---we all want to see peoples private parts every chance we get. (They do too, but wouldn't admit it.) People who design clothing are well aware of that natural human inclination.

I just want to be comfortable. And get sun on my skin. I like air over and easy access to my bits.

I tried those long shorts that came into vogue following some gangsta trend or whatever but they provide me no benefit over pants. So I just kept with the lengths we wore before those silly long things came on the scene.

And did you know that back in our grandparents time basketball players wore much shorter shorts? The guys were similar to track shorts. And if a high school had a girls team, their shorts were almost as short as today's volleyball shorts. Saw some pictures in old high school annuals from the early 1960s.
Basketball shorts now look like pajamas, not shorts!

I for one dislike men's shorts that touch my knees or just below. I find them to be uncomfortable. If the shorts end above the knee it does not bother me or drive me crazy. I would not bother with butt hanging out cut off shorts. I think that they look stupid on men. But these are my personal feelings for what it is worth. I just measured a few shorts that I like and they have a inseam of 4 inches. The two pairs that I have that I don't bother to wear have inseams of 7 and 9 inches . And the comment of men parts hanging out- Try wearing underwear under your shorts.

It's crazy. Our shorts in the 70s were true shorts. I don't know what the inseam numbers were but that alone is meaningless without the seam drop which I never see numbers for. I put the outside hem length from where my wrist ends to the base of my fingers and the hem at the crotch to about fingertip. It's enough to stay decent. Now I haven't worn a pair of underwear for 45 years except long underwear and I'm not ready to start that. My shorts cover my butt cheeks just fine, I'm not displaying that for everybody. Although I really don't have any aversion to being seen naked, the problem is our society's phobias about nakedness so I protect against that. I do allow views up my shorts fairly freely with the rationale that as long as I'm inside my clothes, not hanging out, and people have to look inside from a specific viewpoint and they want to look, then enjoy. But I come across as totally oblivious that anything's showing. Only a small percentage of people come out of their mind's world to look, even when I'm wearing thin semitransparent material. It's kind of amusing really.
