Why am I so METAL??

right....

but am not trying to say doom sucks....but it says a lot when you headline anywhere in Europe.

 

Heaven and Hell are the headliners at Bloodstock.

Black Sabbath's members basically invented stoner and doom, and Dio really is a pretty decent power metal singer.

So there we go. Both genres, one band, one headlining slot this summer

 

doom/stoner metal sound like a cheap imitation of wanna be 70s rock like Big Elf......

 

Heaven and hell is even less doom than Black Sabbath and Dio is not a power metal singer (even though his voice might fit in such a band). Heavy metal and power metal like Blind Guardian are big enough here in Europe to headline a metal festival, so what? Does that say anything about doom metal or stoner (which isn't even booked a lot at metal festies anyway)...

 

I can see you have massively caught up with the doom metal/stoner doom genre already..

 

I haven't heard them. I was just stating where the members were from.

It was actually a little bit sarcastic. And yes, Dio should have been in a power metal band.

yeah but you see American Metal head have their heads up there ass....If its not on headbanger ball or in other words not spoon feed to them then they will know such bands. Thats why alot of great European bands dont come to America but when certain American metal bands come to Europe it as if they are Iron Maiden.......Iced Earth for example.

 

Well, I am disappointed in all of you. arguing over who is more metal, which genre sucks and which ones define metal?

all of this is subjective and you know this.

I don't see why I should shake hands and if you think I actually spend thoughts about which band or genre is more metal you're wrong. Doom and power metal both are equally metal, they're just focussing on different themes and sounds. But if done wrong power metal sounds more gay and hilarious than any doom band could. I don't feel like bonding because we're 'both very metal'. Hope nobody takes that personally

You're way off, if you don't know about a certain subgenre there's no use in saying stuff you've red somewhere. Perhaps some of the stoner doom bands are resembling some sounds from 70's rock (counts even more for stoner rock bands though), but even those are generally not trying to sound like them.
Doom metal may found it's origins in bands like Black Sabbath and Pentagram, it has since then really grown out to a specific subgenre with it's own original characteristics which has as much in common with 70's rock as power metal...

I must add, though I feel that although there is way more potential to embarass yourself with power metal, Doom metal is rather "plain". or "Bland". Im not sure what word I am looking for there but it isnt those.

I prefer power metal but i'm all about progressive metal, and also quite a lot of black metal.

 

You know I was going to say that! above power and doom theres Progressive that conquers all! but I had to go do some heavy metal grocery shopping

also I have a feeling that Immortal can beat anything Doom has written.

 

I spoke with one of thy brothers in Metal and he approves of stoner metal and doom such as:

Electric Wizard
Type O Negative
Ahab

 

Doom doesn't have to beat anything and that comparison is again deluted if ment serious. Anyway, we can approve a lot but in the end it's still about digging it or not
Personally I find stoner doom to be a pretty vague genre, it's generally just a name for stoner rock that sounds too metal (Orange goblin for example) and doom with (stoner) rock or psychedelic elements like Electric wizard or Sleep, so I'm not sure what to recommend. Perhaps it depends on what you like in the genre. I dig a band like Sleep for the heavy groovy jams and Electric wizard for the insane psychedelic heavy doomness. The gothic doom of Type o negative or early Paradise lost can generally get lost for my part, except may be old Anathema.
