The Flower Girl said: Your reply: Why can't you take your own advice and just ignore Sanctuary? It wouldn't hurt you to be nice, or respectful, or to allow others to have the types of conversations they want to have. When a group has expressed a desire to have a forum free from conflict, what is it about your nature that cannot seem to understand that? .
I haven't said one word about you "stopp[ing] anyone from having the conversations they want to have," and, I'm not trying to drag you into a theological argument, in which we would likely agree. I just think you are a rude young man who delights in brow-beating those who you think are less intellectually adept in the art of written expression. .
Okay, maybe you need an example. It may not be the best, but I'm not looking for anything deep, here it is: Eating meat on Friday. A Christian wants to discuss within his religion not eating meat. But he really wants the meat. He worries he may not be able to resist temptation. He is in crisis. Does he eat the meat because he cannot see any reason not to because he doesn't know how much of the Bible he believes or which Christian tradition to adhere to? Does he question why or just do it because it's tradition? Any number of these things could be on his mind that would have nothing to do with whether or not he should remain a Christian. If you don't see the parallel between the vegans' Animal Rights forum and our Sanctuary, I don't know if there's help for you... That's kind of a dick sentiment, don't you think? Anyway, if that's your opinion, that's fine, but being a believer, I don't find it to be so. In fact, what you're indirectly suggesting is that my religion is a disease, and I take offense to that. I'm not getting all up in your face trying to make you convert. If that's happened to you, I'm sorry, but there's no need to be disrespectful to Christians in general. We're not all assholes. Why not just stay on topic? If the topic is not 'does God exist?' or 'should I dump my religion?', which is not going to be in the Sanctuary, why the need to even comment on it with "the other side of the argument," which I assume is one against the Christian faith. Twistie-ties on bread aren't needed. You can just tuck and roll your bread bag and it will stay just as fresh. Should they be illegal? In fact, I think I could make a better case for getting rid of twistie-ties than getting rid of the Sanctuary... Whereas twistie-ties use resources to make and account for part of the pollution problem as they never fully decompose, the Sanctuary forum uses very little resources and takes little time to moderate. Once again, we all pay for the mistakes of a few people. That's an enlightened and progressive attitude.... Gettin' there. Almost the weekend, though.
How about the guy who goes to Alcoholics Anonymous for support and finds RudeNoodle there talking about how good the wine is at Saxbys. .
By all means... Why would I care? And I fit into this where exactly, are you trying to say that I'm leading people away from god or something, can you list any examples of whatever it is your accusing me of? I've never been to the animal rights forum, but I'll go out on a limb and guess that the parallel is that they are both misguided. It was what is known in some circles as a humor joke, sorry. I don't think alchoholism is a disease. Please can you site an exapmle of my disrespect, maybe you are just lacking a sense of humor. Example please? Ok... So you would buy a loaf of bread from the store that was not sealed but instead just tucked and rolled? Fine I don't care. As I have said many times, I don't care if there is a sactuary this thread is to list reasons why there is one as I've already done, now if I truly am so rude and have caused half the problems you seem to claim that I have why have there been no complaints filed against me? Please, if you respond to this keep the refrences to baked goods to a minimum. And here I thought it was Jesus who was put on the cross...
I'm not much of a wine drinker, however I might possibly leave a twelve pack of Budweiser in the back seat of everyones car while they were busy at the meeting, just as an experiment of course.
Is it that you don't recognize an insult, or are you that much of a reprobate that you just don't care what anyone else thinks about you? .
I agree in a way, because being disrespectful is no way to convince someone of anything. But in some peoples eyes, Christianity and all religions that require faith, are disrespectful and an insult to truth. They fart in truth's mouth when they say, sure we have no absolute proof, so you must have faith instead. I can't get behind that, though I'd be lying if I said I am not envious at times. Faith is absurd, but so is our universe.
That's a pretty strong statement. I have never believed in God and have all too often been insulted by Christians, but for you to say that religion itself is a "fart in truth's mouth" is nothing more than turning the tables and insulting people who have never done anything to you. This, in my opinion, makes you worse then the worse of the proselytizers for God. I haven't seen anything in this thread that I could remotely consider an insult from a Christian that was not provoked, while the entire discussion is insulting to a group that just wants to be left alone to discuss their common beliefs. Everyone has the right to their beliefs and opinions and vitriolic comments do nothing to change those beliefs and certainly do nothing to promote harmony or endear others to your position. .
