if you remember on the news there was a guy with a backpack who had been reported as acting strange and the police arrested him at gunpoint . but he is still alive, maybe he was shock up by having people point machine guns at him , but he did what you should do which is stay still dont move until told to . it might be a good idea to put this out on tv so people know not to run, but I would think that with whats been going and where he was he would have known that .
An innocent man has been killed by those whose job it is to protect him. To their credit the police have quickly admitted their mistake. A very serious mistake has been made by someone and it should be investigated whether anyone is criminally culpable for it. I wouldn't like to be a young man of Asian origin in Britain at the moment.
I apologise for missing your post.. You are only twisting the definition of 'execution' to perpetuate a belief we are living in a 'police state'
RE: An innocent man has been killed by those whose job it is to protect him. To their credit the police have quickly admitted their mistake. A very serious mistake has been made by someone and it should be investigated whether anyone is criminally culpable for it. They didn't know he was innocent, and he was running into a crowd. They had to make a snap decision - shoot a lone person or watch dozens get blown up and later say "well, we could have saved lives but we wanted to see a detonator first".
"I wouldn't like to be a young man of Asian origin in Britain at the moment" some of the maddest islamic fundis are recent converts, Ive seen people talking about targeting specific groups like young asian men for searches . I think this would be a mistake apart from the fact you will annoy a lot of young innocent asians, you would miss the blond haired blue eyed suicide bomber . I can think of a few guys that are on the run at the moment who have shaved off the beard have light hair fair skin
Factors which will doubtless be taken into account in the investigation to discover whether those responsible for this atrocity are criminally culpable for it.
We aren't yet ... give it time. We probably won't even notice when it happens because we'll all be happy for their protection
They didn't know if he was guilty either ... just that he was acting suspiciously. Now if that's a reason to get capped in the head then I should have been dead years ago
It is not like this is the first person that has been shot because they posed a threat to the general public.. This person i don't believe was picked out of the crowd he was under surveilance and was being chased .. He had the opportunity to stop and 'surrender'. Like jonny2mad mentioned another case the person was taken into custody. It is a shame that the BBC has decieded to create such a deceitful (in the sense they seem to be 'shocked' and 'horified' that these things never happen) biased angle on this. I appreciate the the 'rules' might have changed in certain situations ..but only a idiot (may he rest in peace though) does the actions he did. I would like to know why the police were chasing him and why he was running. The BBC always does this kinda stuff... they should not act so naive and pander to the likes of Shami Chakrabarti.
RE: Now if that's a reason to get capped in the head then I should have been dead years ago Well, if you're dumb enough to wear bulky padded clothing in summer heat, looking like you're concealing something, and then running from armed cops into a crowd, yeah.
it is also possible that this guy might have acted in this way to provoke getting shot , if he thought that it would get sympathy or effect what might be a effective tactic against suicide bombing . it could be a shaheeda type mission you go to a address you know the police are watching, you dress in thick winter clothes, and then go to a tube station you run from the cops knowing that they have a shoot likely suicide bombers policy .
RE: For whatever reasons he behaved as he did the police have made it clear he was in reality guilty of no crime and posed no threat. I'm not sure how clearly any of us would think when being chased by armed police; those who seem to suggest this man deserved what he got for acting like an idiot are pretty fucking despicable. The hell? There were TWO separate bombing attacks in London recently. People splattered all over the walls, etc. Now, the cops aren't psychic. They can't open a court of law and subpoena various bits of evidence. All they can do is say "wait up a second". And when the guy CHALLENGES POLICE and runs into a crowd, to make the reasonable conclusion they're dealing with another Ramadan Cracker and plug him multiple times in his head. Nobody here is glad the guy is dead. All they're saying is, considering the circumstances (running from cops, challenging them, wearing bulky clothes in hot weather, wires coming out of the jacket etc) the cops did what was pretty reasonable in the circumstances. I'm reasonably sure if you took off and ran through an airport on September the 12th carrying a bulky backpack you'd have been filled so full of lead they could use you as a pencil. There's common sense that needs to happen here. Some South Asians are attacking London. The cops, to their credit, didn't cap him there and then. All the while they gave the guy ample opportunity. To stop. To surrender. All they'd have done is looked at his jacket and seen he had nothing in it and apologized. This was probably suicide by cop.
lets say you have someone carrying a fake gun maybe just playing around. but to a reasonable person it looks real and it looks like he is going to shoot someone . maybe there have been some recent shootings in the place this person chooses to play around in, and lets say armed police shoot him are they at fault . with suicide bombing there is no gun and if a bomb goes off a lot more people get killed than just a guy with a hand gun . the only thing you might see are things like running from armed police while visiting a tube station . I would think that someone who did that at this present time would be just as foolhardy as someone playing around with a replica gun . you have to balance the number of people killed like this guy and the number that could be saved by this policy ..let say he was running to get to a big crowd of people blew himself up and killed 100 people. Id say shooting quite a number of people that acted like this guy would be worth saving that hundred .
We could fabricate justifications for this all day. He could have been told to meet somebody at the station and told to run if he saw three large men coming towards him, it could have been murder by tip off. We just don't know yet. I was under the impression that a bomb had been recovered earlier today, turns out it he didn't even have bag? He was innocent. Until we know the facts lets just be civilized enough to realize the seriousness of this, buzz phrases like 'poppin caps' and 'plugging' doesn't make it any less grim. He was executed in broad day light without hesitation. We just need to be more careful.
I always have 2 sides - one speaks like you did and the other is always more sympathetic - I guess sympathetic because though I do my best to learn other languages, I am no genius! Ble m'aer Llaeth?
ok.. was away all day.. and just read that he was innocent.. hm.. why am I not surprised.. welcome to the new age :/ Anyway.. you are already discussing this so I'm not gonna bump in anymore.. my previous posts make pretty clear what I think about excessive police power and panicing cops. Anyway... carry on.
You can understand why they did but too many 'innocent' idiots run from the Police. they are prolly guilty of something down the line but... it's the fact they floored him THEN killed him several times over that gets me.
