"Seems kinda odd.. "I think that person has a bomb".. "let's fire our guns at him"! Hm.. aren't you like, risking that you hit the bomb or sth?"

I'd guess that the police had more information to go on - It's highly unlikely that they paniked and started blasting people. Also there's some new protocol with suspected suicide bombers, shoot to kill basically, as if they were to go for an injuring shot they may very well hit 'the bomb'. Head shots only in those circumstances.

It's obviously a risky move, but that's why we don't do that job and a special type of person does. For similar reasons I don't think it's wise to start calling the police trigger happy or anything, I'm sure pulling the gun out is still a last resort.

well.. even here in Amsterdam a cop shot a guy because he pulled a knife. He shot him dead. I mean.. what the fuck? What happend to just shooting someone in the leg or arm or whatever, to disable him? He only had a freaking knife.. the cop is a trained professional. He still has his job, doesn't get prosecuted, even though the whole case is very shady. The cop didn't have to explain his actions untill a week (!!) after it happened and the person doing his hearing was a colleague! So yeah.. if you accuse ME of living in a dreamworld, than welcome, you're living in one too. Stuff like that DOES happen. Cops are just people too.. they panic, pull guns and sometimes yes, they do make wrong descisions. That's why I'm eager to hear if the guy they killed today in London was indeed a dangerous terrorist, ready to blow up the subway. And like I said, untill then, neither you or I can judge those cops.

read my post above about the guy who pulled a knife and got shot dead.. last resort? I dunno.. don't forget the cops are trained pro's.. or are at least supposed to be. You can't tell me that the only way to avoid being stabbed is only by killing someone with a gun.. there is a lot of damage you can do, even with a gun, to the human body that will prevent them for using a knife on you, without killing them.

But they guy with the knife was one of the minority groups here.. makes you wonder..

Velvet cops are assholes "im not saying they all are" they have shot and kill homeless here for no reason at all. not long ago a bunch of cops went to jail here becouse they shot and planted a gun on a homeless . But this homeless was well known and the guy was smart . the homeless survive the gun shot . becouse local residents started to get mad and 1 cop blew the horn "they went to jail" . had the homeless guy die the case would had been prob close and forgoten.

It does indeed happen, velvet, more than it should for sure. My post is about 1 such occasion though, today in London. And we're both pretty much saying the same thing, was it the right move and what happens if it wasn't. Only I felt the post so far was just waiting for the victim to be innocent so we could condemn the cop...I thought it handy to remind that the police could of acted with good intentions.

Don't run from cops. Or if you do, expect to take a dirtnap, especially if:

    1) You're from an ethnic minority that just bombed London twice
    2) You're wearing a padded jacket in 70+ degree weather and
    3) If you're told by cops to stop running, and instead you run into a busy crowd.

For all the cops knew they were dealing with someone who was gonna take out as many bystanders as possible.

The runner was stupid and deserved to die.

Deserved to die not because he was South Asian, or what have you, or that I think cops should have the right to shoot who they please.

But sorry, if you're dumb enough to do something that'll trigger a "killing this guy might save dozens of lives" response in the cops, well?

I wouldn't cry too many tears over someone who walks into the wrong part of Oakland with a "Hells Angels suck" T-shirt on either.

In America its just the opposite, you're innocent until proven guilty. We used to have the wild west which isn't so wild anymore but it sounds like England is becoming the old wild west. And to think just a few years ago, the cops didn't even carry guns and now they're shooting anybody who runs.

They have shoot to kill to prevent the detonation of any device, incapacition is to risk laden.

I'm disgusted to think I can even consider the act of killing acceptable, "there can be no justice from the barrell of a gun", but to protect the immediate people under the circumstances disclosed, it may be required.

    Hmmmm Thinks.

I think we can all agree that there are more people shot by cops in the us than over here, so please don't make catchy wild wild west similarities to what has happened today in the uk, its completely different. If you're stopped by cops in the us, the first thing they do is reach for their guns, we haven't quite hit that point yet over here, unless "directly linked" to terrorist action, the guy was carrying a bomb and charging towards a crowd of innocent people, I think you can agree he was asking to get shot really. After shooting him, they air lifted him to hospital, he was obviously dead at the scene and they probably wanted to save him so they could retrieve information, not the most civilized of reasons, but it shows they had no choice to shoot him in the head because of the bomb. People have been shot dead for reaching for cigerettes or keys in the us, much more like the wild west if you ask me. sorry to rant but it offends me that you think we're dealing with this in an unnecessary fashion when its no secret that america is still wild for shooters and trigger happy sheriffs.
