I too knew what that word meant and didn't have to look it up.

I've met people in the past who've used the word: "chauvinistic" instead of "misogynistic" meaning the latter and had tried to tell them "chauvinistic" really didn't have the same meaning at all..

only they didn't take me seriously because my first language is French and they thought.. what do you know better about English than us..

 

Not that it is on topic, but I've found most people who speak english as a second language speak it better than most who do so as their primary

that makes perfect sense though - because when a language isn't your first language is doesn't come as naturally.. you try to speak it right.. although this statement is false for me personally now - I speak english so fluently - I dream in english, I write in english more than half the time.. it comes more naturally to me than french at this point..

 

This is why on the apollo-soyuz missions the Kosmonauts spoke english, and the Astronauts spoke russian.
