I had borrowed a couple books from a good friend of mine to read, one being Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice. I started reading it around 10pm last night, and it was so good that I ended up staying up all night reading it. I was just so incredibly enthrawled by it... I've never read anything by Rice before! Now I want to go out and buy all her books! It was absolutely awesome! It's very rare for me to find a book that I become that wrapped up in, it's amazing. If anyone is looking for a good read and haven't looked at this book yet, get it!
Ill give that one a go. If you liked it, you are sure to love 'Interview with the Vampire' , 'The Vampire Lestat' and 'The Queen of the Dammed'. Some of her books, however, I just cant get into, but it sounds like the one you mentioned is very good.
Yes, 'Interview With A Vampire' is an excellent book! Another good one is 'Servant of the Bones' ... It's kind of slow at the beginning but then it gets really good! ~Sapphire
yeah I tried to read Servant of the Bones but just couldnt manage the patience to get past the slow bit I guess.
i used to read a lot of anne rice's stuff. she wrote some pretty wild erotica under the pseudonym 'a.n. roquelaure'. definitely worth the read.
I tried to read The Witching Hour..... it took me like a year just to get half way through it because I was really busy, then I just gave up because it got weird all of a sudden. Or boring. I can't remember. Maybe I should pick it up again. It was like in 1984, where the book is cruising along, and then all of a sudden you're reading out of a fucking textbook and it sucks ass.
I adore anne rice! If you're ever going to New orleans, read her books on the plane! it makes it that much better. it took me about a week and a half in the summer to read the Witching hour, once you get in you CANT put it down.... just so friggin amazing. I much prefer rice to king
Ha! I'm actually reading 'Lasher' now. I red 'the Witching hour' a while ago and couldn't find 'Lasher' when i finished that one. I've also red 'Interview with a vampire' and 'Merrick'. Great how all these books are linked to each other.
Anne Rice does my nut, as I may have said many times before!! Drives me crazy she does....gggrrrrr. However, everyone should be force fed Memnoch the Devil, because it really is the exception to my boycott.
The religious philosophies in Memnoch are indeed amazing... ...yes def. read the Vampire Chronicles! They are all amazing...also check out Servant of the Bones and The Mummy (Also Known As Ramses the Damned)
Ah, Anne Rice, what can i say...She weaves character portraits of dark, pure evil, wearing arrogance for cologne , ambiguous, mysterious, clever, sexy (not like happy go lucky girl next door sexy...more like the porno you dont tell your buddies about sexy...very taboo) and overly likable all on the same page. Her treatment of Lestat transforms him from innocense to impurity, aristocrat to performer to dark angel, livin to living dead. These books..which are in chronological order-- Interview With a Vampire, The vampire Lestat, Quenn of the Damned, The Tale of the Body Thief, and Menoch the Devil--will give you dreams that stimulate you, in fright and excitement, for weeks after each read...at least those of you with an imagination as active as mine. ~~may your life forever be as vivid as your dreams~~
Memnoch is definitely the best...servant of the bones is pretty sweet too...NO WAY is RICE better than king
Love it, I'm reading Memnoch the Devil at the mo, after having read (in this order): Blood and Gold, Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, The Vampire Armand. I've kinda stopped reading her stuff since my girlfriend's dad died. It's quite a kick in the teeth when you are reading about someone who cannot die when someone close to you is at the brink of death, (I actually stopped 2 weeks before he died). Blessings Sebbi
the vampire chronicles were the best. Brad Pitt playing Louis and Tom Cruise playing Lestat in 'Interview with the Vampire' was too good. i can't believe they skipped 'the vampire lestat' on to make 'queen of the damned' which totally messed lestat up. he didnt look like him or ne thing. it was sooo stupid!
I agree...the reason that Interview was so good is because Anne Rice adapted the book to screenplay herself... the only problem I had with it was that Antonio Banderas was too old to play Armand (nor did he look like him)...but he was still very good... Queen of the Damned just sucked. Its bad enough that they skipped the 2nd book...but they messed up the story! Don't get me started on how bad...I mean come on, Marius made Lestat? No! And Maharet had a sister!
I was actually introduced to Anne Rice by an english teacher in highschool, and ever since I've loved her books... Granted I cant afford to buy all her books, although I'd love to, I borrowed them all from the library. She totally rocks. (I kinda want to visit new orleans now, because of Blackwood Farm! lol)
I suggest you start with Interview with A Vampire and read them in order if you liked Blackwood Farm. You will get alot more out of it because the story is very in-depth and has a lot of history behind it. I bought Blackwood Farm because I had read the rest of them already but I have been reading the Mayfair Witches series (3 books) before I get started on Blackwood Farm because they become intertwined.
