Oh my god!!!!!! Croatia !!!!!!!! Actually I can cook very well, so that isn't to important...does she do anything else real well?
yea or half jews like you. it just seems to have happened that way, especially since I moved to North Jersey.
It looks like the majority want to fuck Indian Summer. I want to go first. I don't want sloppy seconds
Actually I was just gonna ask if Nick was a Jew. But how can one be half a jew or half a Christian? How do you factor that one into the 80% ? And, is David a Jew?
I call myself half Jewish, because my fathers background was Catholic and also because most people seem to think being a jew is a religious thing. but really I'm 100% Jewish because my mom is Jewish.
judaism is a religion, but you can be ethnically jewish without being a part of the religion. the falasha, the black jews of ethiopia, share genetic jewish heritage and have practiced a form of judaism for a very long time in isolation from the general jewish community. an examination of their genetics reveals definite jewish heritage despite a lack of physical resemblance. the form of judaism they practice is somewhat different from mainstream jews, but they are generally considered to be both genetically jewish and jewish be religion. some have converted to christianity, but still have some jewish genetic heritage. not to say that they are entirely genetically jewish, they do have more in common with other ethiopians than other jews, as far as DNA is concerned http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_Israel of course the hardcore orthodoxy still doesnt accept them, but then again they also dont generally accept reform jews as "real" jews either at least, this is my limited understanding as it's been explained to me and based on what i've read. i can't say for sure, as an outsider
You can be half a jew or whatever if one of your parents is one religion or has the background/ethnicity and the other parent is a different thing.. Dave is so not a Jew. His biological parents are Irish and his adoptive parents are ultra catholic. He hates religion and is a big atheist.
being Jewish isn't an ethnic category by definition, though it is a "people". what makes someone Jewish is a Jewish mother; so basically, if a non Jewish woman converted to Judaism she would become a Jew, and if she had a kid with another non Jewish father the son would be Jewish, in spite of neither the mother or the son having so called "Jewish blood".
yes..wonderful, moving on now. Nick can I ask you a question about being Jew (...or half Jew)? If not that is okay.
Well it is but doesn't have to be an ethnicity.. how do you explain the typical jewish physical traits then? The religion itself doesn't make that..
whoops, i did edit it a bit, but not quite to this end. to my understanding there are certain genetic similarities among the jewish community on the whole, but what with one thing and another, i do think it is oversimplifying it to call it a race, but an ethnicity...i dont know.
Yah but I mean, you are what you are. I guess what I meant, not taking in to account parents (which I don't) how you can be half Jew or anything. I don't think parents make you a certain religion either, free will and all that. I don't see the parents factoring into it. And atheism, technically, is a religion in itself actually. I am not religious but CERTAINLY not Atheist either.
from my personal experience there is a decent amount of tolerance among the jewish community when it comes to day to day interactions with nonjewish individuals, but also a decent level of xenophobia and "sticking with your own" at least among the people i've known from a particular orthodox community an example: my ex claimed her parents would have disowned her had they known she was dating me, a nonjew. they would, she said, be far more upset if she wanted to marry a male gentile than had she wanted to marry a jewish woman
