I only asked who your ancestors are because it is interesting. You never know, someone on here could be related to you.
Actually you can learn a lot about the human race through genealogy. For one thing it's a way of personalizing history. I agree with you about what really matters, but this is about family and about connecting with others in that family. For example, my grandmother was 9 years old when she lost her mother in 1919 during the Flu Epidemic. After that she pretty much lost all contact with her mothers side of the family. She had no idea where most of them where or if some of them were still alive and she lived like that for 80 years until I started my search and found her mother's family. For Christmas that year I gave her back something she had lost all those years ago, and the joy on her face was a gift will never forget, ever. She died knowing where she came from and who her family was, and I found them all through genealogy boards and mailing lists.
My great grandmother came over from Norway on a boat to the US. So many of my family's traditions are Norwegian. Vikings! My father's ancestry is German. I think it's very interesting to trace your roots. I would love to know more about my family tree. I adore looking at old photos of family.
There's a couple of websites I posted in this thread you should check them out. In the meantime, always have your ears open and ask a lot of questions. You get a lot of hints that way.
