Who Was Jack The Ripper?

Patricia Cornwell seems to think it was the British impressionist painter Walter Sickert.

I have no idea. The evidence she presents, what I've read so far, seems rather tenuous.

Nice paintings though.

Does she have a point, or is she just trying to sell more books by raising her profile in the media?

Maybe some of his paintings were painted with the blood of his victims? I think we should get the forensics in.

 

I think I read Cornwell's book on the subject.

The likely truth is that the solution to this mystery is lost to time.

 

Saw a TV documentary a few years back where they claimed it could have been Prince Eddy, oldest son of Edward vii, who died, allegedly from influenza before assuming the crown. If it was him I'd imagine that the British establishment would have made a pretty thorough job of concealing any solid evidence. I doubt we'll ever know.

I would be surprised if it were anyone with a high profile. Seems like most serial murderers are average Joe's who kind of blend into the background, somewhere between completely anonymous and somewhat upstanding community members with a bit of a dark side if you dig deeply enough.

Yes, similar profile. A lot of serial murders are also pedophiles. Seems like folks who are predisposed to violent crime have a lot of co-morbid conditions that occur at a higher rate in them than in the average population. Kind of makes sense.

 

I don't know, are they? Jimmy Savile didn't kill anyone, not that we know about anyway. I've heard stuff about the Queen and tory MPs in the 80's, snuff clubs and the likes. Couldn't say if it were true or not..

 

I don't mean that all serial killers are pedophiles, I just think that if you compared the incidence of pedophilia amoung serial killers to the incidence of pedophilia among the general population, I bet you would find that serial killers have a higher occurrence of pedophilia. It's just a hunch.

Jimmy Savile was a much loved TV presenter in the UK, started off doing Top Of The Pops, then had his own show where he invited children on and made their dreams come true. I wrote a letter to him when I was about 8. He was a millionaire eccentric and did a lot of work for charities etc, but all the time, behind the scenes he was raping young girls and gaining access to children's hospitals where he took advantage of countless numbers of mentally disabled children. All of this was kept quiet by the authorities and the BBC, many people knew about it but nothing was done about it and he lived as a free man to his grave. Several years ago hundreds of people came forward and starting making complaints about him, or maybe they were always complaining but it was never talked about in the media until after his death.

 

And all of that led to a number of other high profile cases of abuse coming up.Seems the police regarded Saville as above suspicion, or maybe just too well connected to investigate. Rolf Harris, a popular entertainer, Max Clifford, a high profile publicist, Chris Denning, another BBC radio DJ. All now locked away. Denning was probably the worst after Saville, who was king of creeps. Even got a knighthood. Had his own set of keys to the UK's most secure mental hospital where psycho killers are detained. The number of victims of his abuse is well over 300 and counting. He was even abusing corpses in a hospital mortuary.
Also been investigations into some MPs, but nothing conclusive enough has emerged. I'm sure they're there though - right at the top of the pile.

All this has been a huge national scandal here in Britain.

 

And of course, not forgetting Leon Brittan, who has connections with Max Clifford I believe? Apparently though Leon Brittan is innocent, or he's guilty and the establishment has pulled some strings and had the whole case buried. Pie and Mash films, run by a guy who is a victim of institutionalised child abuse himself alleges in some of his interviews that there are/were child porn videos involving Leon Brittan that were confiscated by MI5 in the 1980's.

And of course, the latest scandal to hit the UK is child abuse within the world of football coaching.

It's really fucked up, and quite amazing that we still have a tory government ruling us.

Back to the point, in response to the question as to whether or not someone of high profile could be "hiding in plain sight". Well, I think much of the latest scandals to hit the news in the UK show that it's not only possible, but possibly quite prevalent among high profile individuals given that they appear to be able to use their political influence and/or celebrity status to get away with it.

It makes me wonder just how deep this goes within the UK establishment.

Lost? Don't write it off just yet. Look at the progress being made in DNA analysis. Heck they can tell you what color feathers some dinosaurs had now. You never know what case cracking bit of tissue might show up in the basement of some forgotten ministry lab.

True that. Only recently the body of Richard III was exhumed by accident and identitified through DNA analysis, so they claim anyway.

 

I tend to think the search for Jack the Ripper was as a complete waste of time tbh. Nobody has any idea and any new study or information, cmon, how can that be relevant after so many years, we are generations past and if they did somehow manage to pinpoint it, like, so what? What are they going to do? Go to trial with a skeleton?

 

I think people just love a murder mystery, and what better than one that actually happened.

 

Oh yeah for sure. But I often hear about new evidence and the case file reopened and I don't see the point in it. A complete waste of taxpayers money to the maximum.

 

Well I think with regards to what inspired this thread anyway, Patricia Cornwell is researching this of her own back. Should any evidence come to light in the future in the form of DNA then it shouldn't really be that much of a burdon on the taxpayer to look into it?

Plenty of tax payers money is used in archeological digs, in the quest to help us understand past lives, so in that respect this is not much different.
