I believe MJ. like other intoxicants have, could benefit from some government labeling regulation, especially as a "medicine". For example, currently, when visiting retail marijuana outlets/dispensaries, one sees marijuana separated by whatever name the growers/dispensaries care to call it, instead of separating it by THC content, which would be a more-dependable measure.

Also, there is no labeling regulation about what chemicals are used in the growing process. Growers could use anti-pest and/or anti-fungal chemicals in the growing process, but give no indication of that when labeling the product. Also, many growers market their product as "organic", but there is no system in place to guarantee that, as one finds in other consumable products.

Why should anybody control it? Grow it in your yard like lettuce! Free the damn plant.

No one, if people are going to use drugs like cannabis they should educate themselves on the effects and risks and make an educated decision as to if they want to use it or not...I don't think using cannabis or any other drug should be a crime.

No one can control it and no one should. That has been the issue since day one through for Americans. Since it's a plant you can not own a patent on it, so where is the money for you? It has no place in our pure capitalist society where personal profit is the priority.

It's becoming legal here mostly because big pharma finally has it's finger in the pie. I would prefer to see it remain legal to grow and possess but to sell on a large scale in stores you need to pass health and safely laws just like beer or apples would have to. But for personal use you do what you want. In some US states it has become legal to buy but not grow. No way!

It should be controlled by the free market, same as anything else.

Like anything else in this country...anyone but our government. The only reason it's being made legal is so government can control the taxation. It's all about money.

  12. Taxation is still better than jail. And for most of the US marijuana and jail are still very close cousins. What I can't get over is why it's still taking so long. I've been waiting since 1976.

Is this in Oregon or California? I forget... It's not terribly important though. Just curious.

I this morning noticed a massive banner for the top dispensary in town across the top of the front page of the newspaper. Interesting marketing... I don't know. I guess that's a good place to put an ad, but I thought of it as sort of a thumb in the eye to the administration.

As for taxes, I usually feel like one ought to pay them and reap the benefits. But these guys with the petitions outside grocery stores tried to set me straight on that/got me thinking because they said the problem is that we never know where that money is or that it ends up where it's supposed to be for one thing and it is then repurposed for something else... sort of like the wall money thing but on a lesser scale.

  17. It should be for medical use only, on a global scale.
Here in Victoria, Australia it's legal for medical use only.
When i say for medical use only, it should replace some medicines that people use for various conditions.

    Oregon
Before legalization happened, activists suggested a tax as a way to barter to persuade the opposition into a way for the state to make more revenue from legal pot transactions. Well, legalization happened without having to offer a higher tax. Then a year later, there was a statewide proposition to vote whether or not marijuana should be taxed. I read the bill. Nowhere did it say the tax dollars would be going. So that just means the pockets of the greedy politicians, of course. Possibly worse. Needless to say Oregon is full of stato-masochists who wanna pay higher bud prices for no reason
