Pierce Brosnan because he had three of the best scenes in his movies (goldeneye sauna and jungle scene and the world is not enough torture scene) and Miranda frost as well.
Well I always route for the villain. Apart from silly ones like Jonathan Pryce, who was basically Rupert Murdoch's less obnoxious cousin With Bonds, I'm not gonna support anyone who works for that repulsive German woman... But anyway, Roger Moore was really funny. I always wanted him to lose, which ofcourse he didn't. Dalton, Brosnan and particularly Connery seemed to take themselves FAR too seriously. Craig takes himself seriously, but there's something more... real... *almost* likeable about him. As a serious Bond, I think he's probably the best one there could be. Bearing in mind, you're unlikely to have a Sean Bean or Ray Winston being appointed to the ranks of MI5.... :-/ My ideal Bond film would see Bond savaged to death by Blofeld's cat...
I generally haven't had a negative opinion of any of them, as I just enjoy the Bond movies in general. My favorite is Connery, followed closely by Dalton, then Craig, then Moore and Brosnan, then Lazenby.
Timothy Dalton is my favorite Bond. I wouldn't say he's the best (That would probably be Connery) but he's the one I prefer over the rest. He's darker, angrier, less corny and honestly, after all those years of Roger Moore, that's what the series needed. The Living Daylights might be a bit dated (okay, it's really dated) but as a period piece, it's great, and it also works as a fun popcorn flick. License to Kill is probably my favorite Bond movie. Robert Davi was amazing as the villain. It also had some of the best deaths in the series. Bond tossing the crooked agent to the shark with his blood money, the guy in the decompression chamber exploding, and my god, Davi's death was my favorite kill in any Bond movie. I'm aware that my opinion is way out of the mainstream for a Bond fan. But I can't help it. My second favorite is George Lazenby. What the hell is wrong with me, right?
Connery will forever be THE ultimate James Bond. No one can even come close to him. I'd say Pierce Brosnan did the best job since Connery. And although the most recent Bond movies were good, Daniel Craig has never fit the part IMO. He's just wrong for the role.
Thank God Sean Connery is winning. He's definitely the best. The new blonde Bond is just not the same...he's cool...but he's not Bond.
100% agree. I grew to love Sean Connery in EVERY role he ever played. He has aged like a fine wine, and was the first to show me that an older man can be super hot and sexy. My first experiences with 007 movies came somewhere near the middle of the Roger Moore era. I loved the scenic locations, the Bond girls, and the movie soundtracks, but Moore was not credible as a sex symbol. When women threw themselves at him at bars, it didn't seem the least bit believable to me. All I saw was nice clothes and a huge ego. He's the kind of guy I would tell to go fuck himself. In real life, he would get drinks thrown in his face every night. Pierce Brosnan probably came the closest to re-creating the original Bond magic. He gave it a good shot. Daniel Craig is a realistic choice in that there are probably a lot of real undercover agents who look like him, but he's just too ugly for the Bond fantasy. James Bond is supposed to be the "pretty boy" who always accomplishes more than you expect.
I dunno. Me and my girlfriend can watch the latest Bond movies together because I can gush over the ladies, and she gushes mad over him. But when we watch Roger Moore films, there's typically no love juices flowing. Maybe in our case, it's more of a generational thing. Posh, rigid martini-drinking men have gone out the window. I get the feeling Ian Fleming would agree with you though.
I never have heard a lot of older women saying great things about Roger Moore. Maybe he was more of a man's fantasy of what the perfect man should be, back in the day. After all, Ian Fleming was a guy, writing novels mostly for guys. I hope Bond doesn't change too much with the times. Otherwise, he eventually becomes just another generic action hero. He has always been set apart from all the others by his sophisticated tastes and sense of style. That's what makes him James Bond. He's also supposed to be quite oversexed, whether politically correct feminists like that or not. The martini part, I don't understand. If a classic vodka martini is mixed right, and they fill a standard martini glass all the way, you get at least two ounces of vodka. Definitely not a drink for pussies. Probably would knock the average beer drinker on his ass. Around here, the only place you will find rich guys having dinner in formal coats and ties is at an exclusive country club, and all those guys are elderly now, about the current age of Roger Moore. So yeah, that part of the image is generational.
They seem to be doing a decent job of balancing out the new standards and market with the old, so far. If you look at Bond's evolution, they have been pretty good with that throughout it's history. I've never tried one. I think the glass hurts it's image though. Men are wussy enough nowadays, those things won't help us any.
Those people know how to make money. Those glasses suck. I wish they had never been invented. It's nearly impossible to carry a full one without spilling it. Maybe you can persuade a bartender to put one in a beer mug for you. As a former bartender, I can and do make all kinds of mixed drinks at home, and my hubby will try pretty much anything I make. He will only drink beer in public. I think it's a shame guys have become so paranoid about such things. Sometimes I just want to say, for god's sake, it's just a drink!
I'm the type to use 'weaknesses' to my advantage. I feel in most cases, if I do something "weird" but commit and am unafraid, it becomes a strength. But I see no interest in such drinks =P I much prefer beer or straight liquor (preferably rum). Sugar and alcohol don't usually mix well in my mind or my gut.
Hey, only girls are supposed to know how to do that! I don't know why this stereotype is so prevalent among younger people. Maybe the giant, high-calorie, sweet margaritas from Applebee's and Chili's are to blame. Bond's old favorite isn't sweet at all. It only has vodka, vermouth, a dash of lemon, and some melted ice from the shaker. Definitely an acquired taste; a serious drink for an experienced drinker. I have a feeling that point is mostly lost on younger movie fans. If you watch any old black and white movies, all the macho characters had a favorite mixed drink that isn't sugary, like a Manhattan or a whiskey sour or a rusty nail. I'm not sure why so many of those old drinks are going away so fast.
I grew up watching Roger Moore as James Bond. But my favorite is Pierce Brosnan because I also grew up watching Remington Steele.
Hard to choose a particular bond but looking back on the franchise there are some people, names, and scenes that really stand out in my mind. Donald Pleasant as Blofeld stroking his cat Ursula Andrews in a Bikini Jill Materson covered in Gold Henchman Odd Job and his razor edge bowler hat The Paul McCartney song Live and Let Die Christopher Lee as Scaramanga and Herve Villechaize as Nick Nack (who will go on to play Tattoo on Fantasy Island) The song Nobody Does it Better by Carly Simon The Girls in Octopussy Emilio Largo (spectre) with the eye patch Auric Goldfinger Sheena Easton singing For Your Eyes Only The Movie Golden Eye with Pierce Brosnan Jaws (Richard Kiel) in Moonraker The mostly black cast in Live and Let Die The foot chase scene in Casino Royale (2006) The Bond girl name Holly Goodhead, The smokin' hot olympic skater Bibi Dahl in For Your Eyes Only The boat chase scene in Live and Let Die
