James Connolly is my favorite communist.

I oppose communism, but he's one of the very few who had a fucking argument.

I was going through this thread and somebody way back when said Kennedy was a Communist? AH HA HA HA HA!!!!! Kennedy was a capitalistic expansionist pig willing to topple governments whether legit or not in the never ending bid to expand our marketplace. Eisenhower sent 500 military advisors to Viet Nam. Kennedy raised it to 15,000 and armed them. Kennedy was a strong anti communist who actually did work on some of the McCarthy hearings in the early '50's. Why do people try so hard to rewrite history. Especially nowadays. A lot of people are trying to paint democrats as panzies and anti military. Clinton had the military budget raised higher than even the Republicans, and sent more U. S. troops into more forays to other nations than any president in our history. LOL Cracks me up. Next thing you know they will be calling Tricky Dickhead the peace president.

My favorite communist was Jean-Paul Sartre. Carrying out the existentialist vision to the max he became a communist just for the hell of it, even though he didn't give a shit about them. And in so doing made a mockery out of political posturing. Way to go J-P!

I think you have it backwards. In Communism, government controls the means of production (companies).

In present day America, Corporations control the government. It's not the Junior Senator from Bumfuck Egypt you need to be worrying about. It's the company whos pockets you'll find the Senators hands in. i.e. GE, Halliburton Bectel, etc. and their puppet masters, Rove and Cheney, calling the shots.

Trotsky all the way!!! He was the only real communist of Russia. His goal was international revolution, his only goal. If Trotsky had gained power instead of Stalin, then Communism would not have the reputation it now has.

That's the problem with communism and human nature: in theory, communism is bliss, but it's human nature to be greedy.

I should mention here that most people have a wrong view of Communism. I don't want to offend anybody, but the blame mainly should go to Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse-tung. True, they were great leaders and contributed a lot during World War II. But they were dictators and they used Communism as an excuse. I also should mention that Communism doesn’t deprive the people of the freedom of speech, it’s always a dictator, or a party won’t give up seized power.

We really should not label people. Labels are suffocating. Besides, even Marx said a communist society wouldn’t come into being till we were extraordinarily wealthy. Many leaders used Communism as a weapon to drive away invaders. Bearing their conditions at that time in mind, when people were general starving, the idea was great. Communism helped many countries achieve independence.

We should not be fooled by some politicians. And you don't have to worry because I’m not a Communist.

Oh, and by the way, if your judging someone as being a TRUE communist, then take into account whether or not they actually READ and believed the Communist Manifesto (take into consideration that every Soviet Leader DIDN'T).

    I've read the English version.

But I think it doesn't reflect the core of Communism. It's a political tool, to achieve a political purpose. And it should be limited to its own time. Communist nowadays should have a better way.

And u really should not criticize Communists. I've never read them systematically, but let me give u an example. See those poor children in Africa, I'm sure it's ok with u if I ask u to send them a pencil and a notebook, but for most of us, it's surely not ok if i ask u to send them a computer, coz u r not that rich. But when the day comes, when u got several private planes, i think u will send them computers. When we all have several planes, I think their theory is, u should share all of them, coz wherever u r wondering about, u can always find a plane to fly. Not a bad idea. But can't achieve that in the near future. In the long run, maybe, so there's no point criticizing it, just as if u r a antitheist, u should not scold a Catholic, he has his rights.

And I don't hear today any Communist swear to kill every entrepreneur, at least those I've met don't.

I have to disagree with your assessment of Stalin as a "good leader" He was a fortunate idiot who hoped Hitler was going to keep their pact together. Fortunately Hitler in his infinite wisdom decided to invade Russia and thus helped the allies in the long run from having to fight both the Russians and the Germans. Just imagine if Hitler had kept his alliance even until later in the war when he may have finally taken Britain. It would have been a much different situation for the allies. We should consider ourselves very lucky and grateful towards the Russian people for their fierce resistance against Hitler's Nazi forces, and the unfortunate truth that I've stumbled upon is that due in large part to the way Stalin's party led the country with an iron "leadership style" the Russian people were already used to such massive depravation and violence that they were ready to fight to the bloody end. The Germans weren't quite as willing especially when faced with fighting in cold Russian winter after cold Russian winter. The Russians dealt with a lot more death and destruction than any of the other countries fighting the Germans and for that I must commend them.

Anyway, why does anyone feel like they have to identify with some passed, out of date ideology like communism. It is brutal and oppressive in practice, and the utopian characteristics are obviously unattainable. "Hippy" is about love and peaceful cohabitation on this planet, if you dont want that then leave these forums because I think you are in the wrong place. Lets look towards better and new ideologies instead of dwelling in the past. Our focus should now be on defeating the globalists/bankers/military industrial complexes of the world and securing a non toxic future for ourselves and our children.

For Russia, I don't know much, maybe I made a mistake.

But I can't agree with your attitude. I think this forum embrace an attitude:

Though I can't fully agree with you, I will fight to my death for your freedom of speech.

the so called innocents he killed were all counter revolutionarys or allied spies,
there is documented proff stalin was going to bring democratic socialist reforms before his death
people who only read and learn allied propaganda will never understand stalins politics,
communisim is not anarchy and will not work along side it.
