Tarja Turunen, Alanis Morissette, the chick from the Julia Hülsmann Trio, Jewel, Paula Cole, Melanie Gabriel...

I dig Bjork, Tori Amos, Ani Difranco, I cant remember her name but the singer for Nickel Creek I love her voice...........................
Jewel...before she went all pop-ish that is... I mean she's beautiful, natural, great voice, great guitar, groovy poet...good stuff...I love her....but her new album is just so bad
yer.. shes pritty kool, and shes soo pritty aswel. i also thikn that lauryn hill has a amazing voice, and i can not 4get bjork
Susan Tedeschi and Joan Osbourne have this thing in their voice which is hot wired right into my soul, and I feel every note those girls put down. As for being a good singer.. Pitch wise I really love Allison Krauss and Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek) both have beautiful clear voice... BUT... Emmylou Harris is the queen.
A solid 85% (and that's an underestimate) of what I've been listening to for the past couple years are female artists. Forgive me for inserting Feminism for Dummies into this thread, but I'll never understand why "women in music" is thought of as a specific category. You rarely see questions about "best male singer," really. The range of female musicians is as vast and wide as that of males, we simply hear about it less. My favorite singer/songwriters include Ani Difranco, Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Tori Amos, Nellie McKay, Tracy Chapman, Kinnie Star, Michelle Shocked, Bjork, Kaia Wilson, Susan Warner, Suzanne Vega, Cat Power, Bree Sharp, Erin McKeown. My favorite jazz singer is Billie Holiday. My favorite folksy groups are Four Non-Blondes and the Be Good Tanyas. My favorite rock/punk bands are Team Dresch, Tribe 8, Sleater-Kinney, Trippy, Feisty, West End Girls, Two Nice Girls... I love Bitch and Animal, Bif Naked, Concrete Blonde, Melissa Etheridge, Melissa Ferrick, Joan Osborne, even Salt n' Peppa on a funny day... and they all have two X chromosomes. what a fucking coincidence.
I don't think that Jewels new CD is bad. I listen to it over and over again - after listening to it for the first time I smashed it in the corner but now I love it. Pop beats, Folk melodies etc. It's very beautiful. It is very good pop.
im not a big fan of many of todays female artist, but i do like courtney love. shes kinda a mess right now, but she rocks out and i love how truthful she is. oh and sade is pretty awesome, gorgeous and a heavenly voice.
Kim Deal is an awesome bass player and songwriter but her voice isn't amazing or anything. It's good for the style of music she sings, but she doesn't have a hugr range or a lot of power.
Delores O'Riordan (lead singer for the Cranberries) has the best voice EVER. She's my idol as a singer/songwriter.
Lauren Hill... gotta love Lauren. Alicia Keys has great talent as well, Brightman, Christina aguilera has a wonderful voice... yet she doesn't user it for the right stuff.
oh shit, i forgot that carol king is still alive. scratch my first three, its definately carol king, cus she played, wrote and sings tremendously better than any other mortal.
