i wish there were more places around here like that. what a lot of people dont seem to realize is that healthier food and fresher ingredients usually costs less to prepare and taste a hell of a lot better anyway. even small towns like the ones i've spent most of my life in, where a relatively large percentage of the population have low incomes, havent caught on to the demand of cheap HEALTHY food. the fast food chains market their food as being inexpensive, but there's no way they could compete with that! i was in Nelson BC a few years ago, and went to my friend's school with him for lunch... i was absolutely shocked that their cafeteria (for a school of about 200 students, k-12) served real, balanced, "home cooked" meals for $2... and you could have as many helpings as you wanted. they'd even serve non-students in the community, like myself. ..... MY highschool, a P3 (privately owned and opporated... basically a corporation) served the greasiest pizza i've ever seen, or packaged meals, or fried foods... the cheapest thing on the menu was a handful of french fries for $3.99 and we wonder why north american children are obese and/or diabetic.
I have noticed dramatic increases in my energy levels since i started eating healthy.... Going from eating whatever and not really having an exercise routine to eating fairly healthy, (not crazy strict or anything) to a daily exercise routine has made a world of difference in my quality of life... I feel so much better its crazy... I drink a lot too though, 2-3 beers daily, most of what i drink is red wine though, 2 glasses a day usually. its either beer or wine, rarely both, save for holidays and parties.
I usually eat healthily, but will sometimes have a week or so where I just crave chocolate, and all things unhealthy.
Man the school subject got me thinking back to junior high. My friend would usually have a cinnamon roll or a toblerone with a bottle of pepsi every day. He ate horribly, but now he has started eating so much better with a bunch of organics thankfully.
Pizza actually isn't that unhealthy(well depends on the type really) as people think it is. It's just many pizzas are made extremely greasy which makes them high in fat.
i eat reasonably healthy. i usually have cereal for breakfast - i try to get ones that aren't tons of sugar. for lunch i always take a ham or turkey sandwich with cheese, lettuce, and maybe cucumbers. usually a side of carrots and PB, raisins, pre-packaged snack crackers.. dinners are usually prepared by my fiance. lots of veggies. meat is usually chicken, but we eat beef and pork too. tonight we had salmon. lots of pastas and red sauces. i rarely drink soda or eat fast food. i drink alcohol quite moderately. the most unhealthy thing i do is smoke copious amounts of cannabis.
you need to consume some form of grease and oils, fats. Or else you will be all dry on the inside and unable to POOp.. saturated fats unsaturated fats trans fats healthy eating lowering fat Monounsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature but begin to solidify at cold temperatures. This type of fat is preferable to other types of fat and can be found in olives, olive oil, nuts, peanut oil, canola oil and avocados. Some studies have shown that these kinds of fats can actually lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and maintain HDL (good) cholesterol. Polyunsaturated fats are also liquid at room temperature. These are found in safflower, sesame, corn, cottonseed and soybean oils. This type of fat has also been shown to reduce levels of LDL cholesterol, but too much can also lower your HDL cholesterol. Omega-3 fatty acids These include an “essential” fatty acid, which means it's critical for our health but cannot be manufactured by our bodies. Good sources of omega-3 fatty acids include cold-water fish, flax seed, soy, and walnuts. These fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and also boost our immune systems.
I don't really enjoy cooking for myself for some reason but I do get together and cook with friends about 3 times a week, we have a dinner co-op going on. we all throw in on good, fresh ingredients, lots of fish, salads, fresh fruit and vegetables, any beef we eat comes from my friend's father's grass-fed cattle. The only problem with this is we often end up drinking a little too much during these dinners. during the rest of the week i eat pretty shitty, i've been meaning to start spending one day a week preparing meals for the rest of the week to ensure that I don't fall into the trap of finding the quickest most convenient meal available. The biggest problem with my diet is soda, i have a huge caffeine addiction. I've been trying to replace soda with green tea but I usually have at least one soda a day at work. I drink a lot of herbal tea when i'm at home.
unfortunately i do not, where i live "the ghetto" no store in the area sells whole wheat flour, only bleached white, so i get dry whole wheat pasta. not bad, but if i had the ability to get the ingredients i would in a heartbeat. and its good to see another grapefruit lover, none of my friends like em. not all sugar is bad. what i mean is that the sugar or corn syrup that are put in prepackaged foods are indeed horrible for you and in all reality it would be better if you never ever ate it. but raw unprocessed sugar, while not exactly the most healthy thing, is actually not all that terrible for you and wouldnt be bad to use to sweeten meals, better for you than splenda or any of those other non-sugar sweeteners that are likely worse for you than sugar i feel bad for ppl that have never had or made home-made pasta sauce, i know the reasons they dont: sure its kind of a pain, takes forever and makes a HUGE mess that you have to clean up, but its so much better for you and OMFG the taste, the flavour is something that cannot be beat. and as you are making it yourself, you can tweak the seasoning to make something perfect for you.
fuck the sauce, its an everyday thing for someone raised in an italian family... the pasta is what counts... homemade pasta is a fucking win... my grandma(mommom) has this roller machine that hooks the the end of her kitchen table, she literally spends days making fresh pasta for the family...
i've been eating more fruits and vegetables the last couple weeks but i haven't pooped in 4 days! i guess i should eat more french fries.
I have been vegan for the last 2.5 years and gluten free for a year. I stopped eating refined sugars as well. I have a Breville Juicer, Cuisinart food processor, Excalibur food dehydrator that my beautiful girlfriend uses to make killer raw vegan meals for us. We are planning to get a Wheat grass juicer that can make nut milks and we cook with coconut oil as well, its soo delicious. I forgot to mention that I stoped drinking alcohol(cigarettes too) 4 years ago and coffee(any caffeine) 3yrs ago. DMT had a huge influence on me changing my habits.
