My older brother switched on me back in 1996. He converted from A Dolphins fan to a Steelers fan. Boooooo! (He did so because my sister's side of the family likes them.) A friend over in Gallitzin sounds like you do (only actively caring if Pittsburgh was in it). I've been a Dolphins fan since 1983. The New England Patriots are my arch enemy. I hope somebody can get me a dart board with Tom Brady's face on it in 3 weeks! (My birthday) I can watch this game in peace tonight, since the Pats aren't involved. IF I have to pick somebody, I'll take Baltimore. My other brother loves the Seahawks. The 49ers are in the NFC West like they are. Safe to say he's rooting for Baltimore as well. :2thumbsup: I record the game every year, no matter who is in it. I have XXI (1987) to XLVI (2012) in my collection. The quality is shitty on a few of them, but the games themselves are intact. Only so much I can do with a DVD recorder. P.S. Nice idea with the cake! Did you end up buying it? :chef:
A couple years ago somebody found a video tape of the first Super Bowl, which wasn't officially recorded by the TV network that aired it. Someone who worked at a TV station recorded it and it got stashed away somewhere. There is legal wrangling over who exactly has ownership of the video. When they straighten it all out, it might be available to everyone some day (if it isn't already).
Woohoo! Steeler Nation is everywhere! No I didn't buy it I just saw the pic PS happy early birthday :sunny:

I'm glad there are still American people who understand the idea of sport was that you support and team and not a "brand". British football used to be something we were proud of. Our clubs were cultural institutions, almost a religion in some cases. However, instead of developing the German and top Spanish models, our "clubs" have become "brands". So we might as well support "Walmart FC". Its absolute fucking wank.
Here the reason behind the dislike is because they wear so much padding and our rugby codes don't. Most of Australian spectators on American sports look but don't watch the sports and they hear but don't listen to them either. I know the helmet is used as much as a weapon than it is a safety feature. I also know the tackles between the two are completely different so comparing the sports won't work. Saying that soccer players stand around is true but it won't help your cause because NFL players have a 40 second+ rest every 5 or so seconds but in saying that, at least all 22 players on that field are busting their guts at the same time. The world hates on American arrogance but when it comes to American sports, the rest of the world ain't any better.
I love it. Its a time to be with friends, drink beer, get high, and watch men get physical. A sunday doesn't get much better!!
As for the dullness, American Football is too stop/start for me. How many chances do you really need to move 10 yards?! And seems to me like the majority of players are centered in a specific part of the field where as in football there is always movement in all areas. But hey, horses for courses and all that. The fish flopping is something that annoys me too - Football is getting soft. But that's only really at the highest levels. You tune into a game a division or two below the top flight and that kinda behavior will have even the referee telling you to get your arse up!
It surprises me, that Ive not created this thread myself.. aside what my shrink said. I have lots of restraint..
