yeah man they stopped making them here. not sure why... old ladies love my hair it seems like, or at least they are nice enough to smile. the old white guys around here just shake their heads or laugh.
I got my first compliment!!! I went out on a date to a tapas bar with my husband and the waitress was like "the other waitress wants to know how you got your hair like that" So I told her and she came over and they were both like "So, how do get your hair so perfect and round? It looks gorgeous!" They couldn't understand it when I told them that I just wash once a week. They were spanish and called them redlocks! It made my day because if strangers think my dreads are perfectly rounded I may have hopes in employment.
straight up, old ladies love the dreadies. every day i have at least one old lady at work stop in the middle of her scentance when she notices to say "oh my god i love your hair!!!" as per black to white, i get positive comments from both races, like everybody says, white people usually have more questions, black people usually just want to know how long i've had them. i had somebody today, a father and his son like 8 or 9 that really cracked me up. after they paid the dad asked me how long i had my dreads, i told him one year, and that i've been growing my hair for a year and a half. they started laughing and the dad was like "you win, i said 2 years, you were closer!!!" his son got McDonalds for lunch cuz he guessed 1 year old. they both said they liked them and were talkin about it the whole time they were filling up their car
i work at a shell gas station (here in new jersey its illegal to pump your own so i go out to the cars and pump for all the people)
I'm glad New Jersey is hanging with Oregon with the whole 'you can't pump your own gas' thing. I spent most of my life so far not having to pump gas and now that I live in Cali I still haven't gotten use to doing it myself. Pretty much everyone in my hometown works at the gas station (it's a small town) It's pretty much the only job there is.
dumb thread. but in response, typically the negroes i come in contact with are buying drugs from me, so they usually don't say anything and the white people i do business with are usually my arresting officer, and they don't really comment on my hair either
It's illegal to pump your own gas? I finally found a full service place that charges less here... unheard of. Just lucky my son got placed in this tiny little town of 2000 for school. I learn something new everyday.
When I was in Calgary, nobody said nothing. (Though I had a Rasta from Gambia try and pick me up in SuperStore once.) Now I'm in a place so white, I went through culture shock. But I've had a lot of compliments. I miss living in Brown Town. Affordable sari silk and good henna a-plenty.
I think that only in Oregon and New Jersey is this the case... there might be another state as well, I'm not sure. But it is not the norm. As an aside, I hate it when people say a thread is stupid and then go ahead and post in the thread anyway.
weird I always thought Oregon was the only state doing that. http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/15455
I'm about the same, but when people start to get to know me and talk to me more they usually ask something about it. But that is because I go to school with a lot of people. If I were out of school, I'm positive no stranger would tell me anything. But in school, I get more "So why would you do that to your hair? I mean, uh, it looks, like, good and everything but...." I also get lots of hair pulling. People walk by and just tug.
i would flip the fuck out if i had people pulling on my hair like that. I have enough problems keeping my hair clean so i wouldnt want a bunch of dirty hands touching my hair
it is only those two states, i personally hate it. i cannot stand having my gas pumped for me, it stresses me out really bad. it always takes the guy forever to come over to your car, then after the pump clicks it takes them forever to come back over and unhook you. its so much easier and quicker to just pay, pump, and leave. but then, i'm not originally from a state that requires you to have somebody else pump your gas, people here seriously have issues with road trips, trying to put diesel in their car and dumb shit like that. i think new jersey only does it becaues the girls here all think they are princesses and deserve it.....thanks mtv
When I lived in Oregon I kinda liked when they pumped my gas. usually I just get out and squeegee my windows and they are part way done by the time I get finished. now if they were to take away my squeegee privilages i'd be pissed.
