its just a personal opinion he is not attacking dreads, leave him alone, im sure you wouldnt want a bunch of people with perfect bleach blond hair attacking you for your personal choices
... meh the stupid kid who read that blog is just the kind of person with no judgement whatsoever whilest he may know a lot of stuff, though I doubt it, if you go on and read the links about mohawks you can see how this dumb kid just read em and made his own version. In the end this kid has goine and shown how racist he is, not only towards one race but towards all, I wouldnt let "someone who is entitled to wear dreads" tell me Im not allowed Ill hear them out and then ill politely tell them to go fuck themselves, then I certainly wont let a dumb kid tell me. every movement or race or whatever feels at some point some part of their style is being robbed, but that doesnt matter is the way things evolve. no one, and I do mean no one, has a truly unique style since people form their own style by taking pieces of others. Its completely a narcissist idea to think that youre the reason why something happened when this dumbass states the white privileged he seriously ahsnt come to mexico, money is what states privilege, as I dont have that much I end up having less privilege in some kind of reverse racism thing, people think Im a tourist, or rich, so anything I try to buy will be twice the real price and I will have to fend of more muggers in a week than the usual mexican will have in a year..... well not really fend more like avoid, you learn where not to go after a while
All cultures take from one another and embrace the positive aspects of one another. We all eat different cultured food, listen to music from different ends of the earth etc. That blog had a pretty racist tune to it but we can't control everyone's thought patterns/views. /end
lol@ people without dreads trying to tell me how i should look. @purp: do you actually know anything about rastafaI and dreadlocks? or are you just making this up as you go? culture appropriation lol. my ancestors (celts) had locks way before the rastas and the cool hip trendsters did
exactly. Dreads have been around since the dawn of humanity. I'm sure the first humans had some pretty gnarly duck tails... Fuck me, I love having dreads. When I'm shrooming or even just baked, I trip on how natural and right they feel. I don't believe we should be governed by religion anyway, why can't humanity get over it? Maybe I'm an evolved rasta..
Wow, i can see my post ruffled some serious tail feathers here i knew i would get some flamage..as is often the case when an opinion is put forth by someone whose opinion differs from others..Real talk though i haven't read any forums about Mohawks or none of that jazz..Just sharing my thoughts but i see they were perceived as counter-productive and if i seriously offended any of you i apologize. P.S Natural Philosophy i wasn't trying to preach who started dread's first, though since we are on the topic.. Celt's no doubt had dreads before Rastafarian's but so did Masai tribal warriors in Africa amongst others.Especially when you consider blacks were the dominant ethnic population in Jamaica as early as the late seventeenth century. So they was rocking dreads most assuredly. Lastly if you wanna talk "heritage", the cradle of humanity reportedly began in Africa, look it up. Cultural "appropriation" as you put it isn't as far fetched as it seems when you consider well..American cultural/culinary history.
white people and dreadlocks. let's be thankful. it's a massive improvement form the 90's mullet craze. dreads are not the final solution, what fashion will represent 'anti' in the upcoming years? beehives? a radical reverse to the Casar?
LoL hey i will agree with you on that they are definitely a step up from the mullets of yesteryear. Also, an interesting question you asked there about what style represents "Anti" throughout the generations.
...Ok that article was pretty lame...but I have noticed dreads becoming a fad. I personally have nothing against it, so please don't get all pissed at me, but there clearly are some people that are getting dreads that really really shouldn't. Lots of white people look fuckin sweet with dreads, but it has to fit you completely. I know I couldn't do dreads (not that i really want to, although it has crossed my mind). Some people getting dreads have the same type of personality as all the "preppy" kids did in high school. Guess what I'm sayin is if you're doing it to fit in or be cool it really shows.
yea thanks for the 'history lesson'. but actually, no big deal but since you mentioned it, jamaicans didn't grow locks until the garveyite movement. it was viewed as socially unacceptable to the white upper class who ruled jamaica. and why is this debate even about dreads? i dont see a debate on whether or not black women straightening their hair is offensive to white people? i would point out to you that your comments are biased towards the 'trendy' aspect of it. maybe you dont realize that for some, dreadlocks isn't about looking 'trendy'? for some its about rejection of society's standards of beauty and vanity. i can understand your point of view, as someone who is on the outside looking in. and yea, for a lot of people (blacks included...as if they 'own' the hairstyle) it IS about looking trendy. and those folks should cut they shit off in my opinion. they usually do after a few months anyway so :cheers2:
lol who the fuck cares what other people do with their hair...? is it seriously even worth forming an opinion about something that does not affect you at all?
i'm 99% sure that the kid who wrote that blog was doing "it" as a social experiment on people who believe everything they see on the net.
