I am actually a really great driver. I'm alert and I've learned to maneuver very well. I think I can owe this to having lived in Southern California for most of my life. It's over populated and crowded here, streets are small and narrow. I'm also a courteous driver and always use my blinker.

So my theory is that the people that have lived and grown up in California tend to be great drivers, but the people who come from other states are the ones that drive like shit.

I'm wondering what the experience is for people in other states with spotting a driver from California specifically, but also other states. Do California drivers seem crazy to you? What state do you live in and what are the drivers like?

The out of state cars here are most often from Arizona and Nevada. People from Arizona drive slow aka drive like shit. People from Nevada also drive like shit and will seriously just reverse right into you...

The only other state I've driven in for a long period of time and can offer a critique for is Washington and I'd say there are great drivers there. Maybe they're more skilled in driving because they deal with driving in the rain all the time.

Something else I've noticed is the drivers in Washington are so courteous to pedestrians. It's very pedestrian friendly there and a car will completely go out of their way to stop for pedestrians. Sadly, this is not the case in California.

I live in Iowa, grew up in Chicago and have had no problem at all driving in any part of California. But I bet a lot of people in SoCal wouldn't drive so easily in Iowa or Chicago in the middle of January or February.

the states with the most automatic transmission drivers are the worst.

you are safer with someone who drives manual regardless.

if you getting in sports car, well you should know chances more.

the problem is cops, they all drive automatics and are the problem.

then their are the few on bikes, always shifting gears, again manuals.

    trust in gear shifting.

Well, are you talking about snow? cuz that's another story.. I wouldn't wanna drive in the snow and I'm sure my other Californian's wouldn't want to either. We just don't do snow here.

The great thing about driving in Cali seems got be if you know where you're going they will let you do it. Meaning, if you put your turn signal on they will let you over. Seattle on the other hand, if you turn you signal on they will close the gap so you don't get in front of them. Washington drives are amazingly selfish

Yeah...the snow and ice would probably do them in. But...I was kind of impressed in California that people can handle curves and hills so well on the highway at faster speeds. Imagine their hills and curves plus our snow and ice....nobody would live very long. :)

hmmm... I would say California drivers do not like to let people over. Even if your blinker has been on for a while. There's always traffic and people are irritated and so I guess they just don't have the time or patience to be courteous, ha. I am courteous though. I know it's crazy here and can be difficult to drive in California, especially if you havn't acquired the skills yet like if you just moved here. So if someone isn't allowing me to get over, I've learned to maneuver in such a way that it works. I guess you have to be aggressive with it.

I wouldn't call California drivers as a whole courteous by any means, I said we're great drivers because of the skills we are forced to learn.

I'm curious what it's like to drive in New York. When I visited, I only stayed over night and traveled by subway and cab. I'm curious what it's like to drive there, but I wouldn't want to attempt it. Nope, that looked frightening and futile. Everyone was honking like crazy when I was there, and not really moving..
Plus, why would I drive there when there are so many more modes of transportation.

Here in Florida the drivers are pretty bad. Everyone here likes to speed, or drink and drive.

I think for the most part Iowa drivers are friendly. Traffic isn't usually too bad. The ice and snow sucks but if you know how to drive on it then all you have to do is worry about the other idiots that don't know how. My drive to work yesterday wasn't fun while it was snowing but you deal with it when you live here.
