Which posts do you read in a thread?

    A random thought:

When opening a thread, how do you read it?

    Only the OP?
Do you read every post in the thread?
    Just the first/last page?
    Skim several pages?
Only read responses from certain posters? Which ones (not specific names, but how do you pick whose posts to read)?

All the above except "certain posters"
Although I may skip some specific posters on political threads if it is a long reply and they have proven themselves to be very predictable and repetitive.

I generally try to read every post. However if I'm hopelessly behind I'll skip to the last two or three pages.

Depends on the length of the thread. If long I read first & last only. Otherwise I read all

Sometimes I skim, but usually the OP and then answer but probably should read through the threads, completely.

Usually the last post, unless the thread title interests me enough.

But then sometimes I'll read nothing and just come in with some bullshit. Yeah.. 90% of the time.

Small threads - I'll read all the replies.
Large threads with 3+ pages, I'll read OP to get an idea on what the thread should be like, then skim the last 2-3 pages to get an idea on what people are really talking about.
For threads I follow or post regularly in, I'll read the last unread messages.

If I can provide a direct answer to the OP on the topic then I'll just read the OP initially, although I usually will read other responses after. If it's a thread with an open ended discussion, I tend to read most every post.

On occasion, I'll search the forums and find a section I don't frequent a lot and if I find a topic that is already several pages in, I might just skim through.

I'd say I pretty much read all posts but if it's a topic that focuses on a particular field or area of knowledge, I'll exercise discernment in what I read to absorb.

all of the above depending on thread length, post length, thread age, thread topic, who is posting, how much time i have, my mood, how many new threads there are, and probably several more factors that i'm not considering at the moment.

i read all of this thread.

Depending on how many pages, and if it is interesting (like this thread) - I will read it all... but getting me to make a comment is another story!

I guess it depends. Like right now i'm in the middle of cooking so i'm going back and forth kinda rushing.

Normally i click on threads that appear interesting, then skim through the replies briefly. If anything captures my attention, i'll read into it more. If i have a lot of time in my hands i may take my time and read through everything or if i'm in a rush i will likely just read the original post and decide whether to reply, ignore, or come back to it later and read more into it.

I begin by reading my previous comments or I’ll respond to an alert.

If it's the very fist time I've read the thread, i'll respond to the OP unless it's too long

Yeah that too. And I'm sorry but I don't read back if there's pages between my last post and the last post. I just can't do it, unless like you say I had an alert.
