The Platform While it isn’t the most bizarre movie...... It’s pretty grim, some very realistic scenes too! But the usual favourites..... Hostel, fear and loathing...... Was it called Misery? That was pretty odd!

I remember many years ago as a teenager, I can't remember the title of the film but it really was bizarre, it was a soft porn film, in the same vein as the 'emmanuelle' or 'electric blue' films, the type of stuff you'd see at the pictures. Anyway the gist of the film was that a randy bloke had had sex with this young girl and corrupted her, her mother was outraged and vowed revenge, this came in a truly comedic form. The mother makes a play for the randy young bloke and eventually manages to seduce him, they are on a boat and she strips to her undies and gets him to strip naked, she then tells him she is into kinky stuff and wraps him in cling film, leaving only his cock exposed. As he lies there wondering what she is going to do next she begins to tell him about how she knows what he did to her daughter and how she is out for revenge, at this point she pulls out a large carving knife and tells him she is going to make sure he doesn't repeat the act with anyone else, cue a rather farcical chase as he tries to avoid having his dangly bits removed by the irate mother. It was one of those films, no matter how much I try and remember it I cannot for the life of me recall any actual sex in the film, only him being wrapped in clingfilm and being chased by a very angry older woman.
Marat Sade (1967) takes some beating. I still remember the mixed reaction when we opened it in London. It is the only film that I have ever worked on without watching it in full. Marat/Sade (film) - Wikipedia
It has somewhat surreal memories for me, since a decade earlier my school had decided that I was probably the only person for the narration of Under Milk Wood. I remember listening to Richard Burtons version for inspiration. The following year, I had to read Odour of Chrysanthemums which I went on to select for my literature exam. Then suddenly I had to open the film in London. The press preview was really odd, with critics so obviously thinking 'WTF, how am I going to pull this one off with our readers'. We had a few members of audience during the run walking out, while others were transfixed. The end of the show was so funny, with a lot of people slinking out with their collar turned up as if they were leaving a brothel. We ran around 300 performances, but it was a bit too much to succeed in a film version even for the Haymarket in London. The general release went to selected theatres only.
