Since I can no longer come here with a positive outlook and a clear conscience. I respectfully request my Hip Forums account be deleted. Thank You.
I asked what he saw with his spiritual eyes and he saw... love. A little creature who would give his life for us and who loved us and we him without question. I do at times use my human eyes atomatically, when I would be better off using my spirit eyes. am striving to make all my eyes one and the same. teepi All I can say is awesome!
I didn't have time to read every post, but just want to say.... forums in general on the web lately have been full of bitter people. I'm just staying low in general, don't like the negativity...not HERE exclusively but everywhere. Just seems to be a spirit moving among people. I hope it ends soon too. <<>> for the record, I like Old Hippies staying open to all, I always like the discourse, whatever direction it takes. If someone comes in to aggravate, then ignore. And I don't mind being called old either. "Ageless Hippies?"
Hello, I'm new to forums, so you guys are my first impression.. I may not execute proper forum protocol.. I did notice that I would hate to be a moderator on a "free speech" forum that has so many rules.. My "beef' was with the age thing saying I wasn't qualified to answer "old Hippy" questions because I was born 30 days too late.. But I came to the conclusion that, I don't care If you don't feel my input is valuable.. I'll just go hang out with the Pot Smokers. I came here to relax and smoke one anyway..
skoozy, I think that the age "limit"(?) was put on the FAQ so that those folks who were doing in the dayz are the ones to answer questions about the dayz. Doesn't mean that everyone who meets the age requirement knows what was going down when it was going down (I sure didn't - I grew up in a backwater surrounded by conservatism). But if someone was to ask "What was the coffee shop scene in the Haight like before the Summer of Love?", the questioner would want someone who had experienced that to be the one to answer. At any rate, I know the limit wasn't put on the FAQ in an attempt at inclusion/exclusion. The folks who did it just aren't wired that way.
I find that by asking the older folks what they feel was a problem in their forum by creating this thread has in fact turned into a very good thing. A general, all purpose thread where people can actually bring out their "beef" no matter what flavor or age. I like that ... Karma in action ... cause and effect. Similarly, the thread Old Hippies FAQs is a thread where those visiting the site can go to look for an answer to an Old Hippy-related question, or pose the question there for answers rather than posting multiple threads that ask the same question, that eventually find their way to page 20 or so, only to be asked ... AGAIN !!! Again ... Karma in action ... Isn't life grand ??? Folks ... young and old ... I'm not going to be around much longer. No, I'm not gonna die or any such morbidity. I'm following my heart, making my choices that become who I am. Ever since I began studying and practicing Buddhism, I've had a desire to follow the monastic life. I've asked my current Tibetan Lama three times for ordination into the monastic in those two years, only to be turned down. Now, after attending the meditation retreat, I have been asked by the Order of Monks of the Theravada Buddhist sangha to join their community as a monastic. I accepted after much deeper consideration during the retreat. I went with the intention of asking them, but they "beat me to the punch" as it were by asking me first. Again ... Karma in action. During the retreat I had an extreme profound experience. For the first time in the 49 years of my existence ... without the use of drugs ... my mind was completely free of thought, completely free of chatter, completely free of stress and mental activity. It was such a liberating experience that I finally understood what it was I had been practicing all these years, and what it was Meagain was saying back in the Philo ward (Philosophy and Religion Forum). Folks ... Thank you for being my friend ... my acquaintenance ... and for exposure to your presence. Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu. I finally found the courage to leave my fears behind. I quit my job, am in the process of completing the distrubition of all my posessions and pursuing that which I was meant to follow ... my heart ... with Right View, Right Intention, Right Action, Right Speech, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration. Never has such a profound path been laid out as that of Buddhism, and not be a religion ... I'll miss you all ... You'll love having Meagain around. Read and Watch ... With Metta, I remain your friend, Darrell PS: I took temporary ordination while I was at retreat. If you would like to see the process, the same process I will be undertaking again, follow this link (first six pictures): http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/showphoto.php/photo/48195/sort/2/cat/500/page/1 PPS: This is where I'll be: Greensboro Wat 2715 Liberty Rd. I don't fit the criteria of "Old Hippie" but I've been reading this thread in earnest. Some suggestions: - If a "young hippie" creates a thread here asking what it was like in the old days, why not move it to the "Flashbacks Forum". - If a "young hippie" creates an inane, annoying thread here, why not move it to the "Hippies" forum (heaven knows there have been plenty of inane, annoying threads in that one lately LOL) - Offensive posts should be reported and their posts deleted. But in any case, PLEASE don't separate yourselves from the younger folk! You guys are the ones who started it all, basically. You are the reason we are all here in the first place! Sure some kids may be troublemakers (and on that subject I've only seen complaints about ONE specific member in this entire thread so far - one kid out of 18,000 members), but since this is the "Hip Forums", there are a great deal of us who hold you in reverence and worship the ground you walk on. Maybe some of those kids who are posting annoying threads just wanted to be able to talk "face to face" (so to speak) to an original hippie. I'll butt out now - see you later!
My beef is when people start new threads on something that already has a thread on it, such as "Fact of the day" in the Random Thoughts when we already have Useless Information thread.
I just found this site today and posted a few things in one section-not sure where it went!?-But-I am 56 a San Franisco origonal freekydeeky hippie-w/ very long hair-I lived at home and hung out at the Haight-and the Fillmore and Avalon-it sounds like there are some differences of opinion on who should be on here and who shouldn't-it would be nice to hear from those that were around for the "big party"-I knew alot of people on Wheelers Ranch and it would be cool to hear from them -but; also anyone else with a good positive outlook would also also be a good thing-no matter the age or experiance-How can we teach the young people if we don't let em in?-thanks-Robspace1---
The world needs people that set a good example, re: creating peace, not pre-judging other people because they are unique, teaching people to "change the channel if they don't like it" instead of trying to damage or eliminate someone because they are different (ie: "civil right action"), and people who exhibit healthy freedom of expression and thought. Ran across this thread and thought that I'd re-post an earlier post of mine (Located at : http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96226&page=2&pp=10 ): " I just discovered this site and this particular forum, and I find it to be wonderful. The "Hippie", although it's has well know historical roots, is not static and is far more than is often coined by the stereotype. Peace, Living and Teaching to make a better world, and Freedom are really what are at the core of the movement that was born long before the Hippies. The Hippie was, and is, a new and powerful manifestation of this movement. Looking far back to, for example, Socrates or Jesus we see truly dedicated expressions of this movement. We should all realize that it is essentail to "walk the talk". More specifically, in reference to this thread, everyone here is very different, clearly; and for the most part everyone here really cares about individual freedom, human rights, asking open and sincere questions in order to help better our world. In looking at this thread what I see is sincere loving people, with agreement and disagreement; living, and in pursuit of, an important goal. I am 'joyed' to see the passion and the richness of the threads in this forum in general. So even if are different, even if we disagree, lets embrace one another with the spirit wisdom, with the spirit of great respect; even with limited knowledge, because what we are really working on is truly very, very, important. Hey Darrel, I'm new to this Forum..but not new to HipForums--I usually stay comfortably in my own and two friends Forums I met here a year ago. I feel its nice to follow "threads" and read inspirational writings, poems, philosophies from folks my age...why? Because there is so much we went through together...and not as strangers...one tribe under the umbrella of love, peace, and beauty...and it has been totally rewarding to now have more life-long friends. When I first looked around here and read some posts from the "old psychedelic soldiers"-2 years ago...most of all the replies were.."hmmmmmmm"..."yep"..."uh-huh"...."me too"....it was brain numbing so I left and just returned about 8 months ago. My attitude has changed--as our website has been changing..our lives changing...that we are reponsible for teaching--aren't we the new "elders?" Still and all..it is difficult for the young ones to comprehend what we actually went through--so we must be especially specific and take the time to answer their questions, no matter how naive they might seem...and not expect a response..just give from our experience and memory and how things, situations and ideas are working for us in our lives today. The "flamers-old guy predators--the great little goddesses and gods of discontent"..well..since I'm a Leo--they challenge me to respond subtly without anger--only feeling and oftentimes knowing they are just asking for Love and acceptance in the only way they know how..that's why our 60s tribal unspoken rules of social behavior are still obvious today (the Hippie Heart)--ya gotta walk your talk man..be an example...take the earthworm off the sidewalk after a rain and return it to some nice moist earth...teach your children well...get back to the garden..if it doesn't get you high, don't do it..ya know--that's our language.. we try to live by--isn't hard at all to be kynd, compassionate, loving, respect others boundaries, mellow, sharing what we have, and always ready to Boogie!! LOL! Always ready to learn more and grow..keep shedding away the layers that keep us karmically bound..uncloak and keep speaking from our Hearts--living from our Hearts...breathing from our Hearts...loving from our Hearts... I met my partner MammaMoon here around 8 years ago...we have been together now for 5 years. Thanks for being here.. Peace LionHeart
I have just found the old hippie forum and did not find any old hippies talking about any old hippie things so I would like to change the subject and ask if any of you "old hippies" know how an old hippie brother could get in touch with any of the Motherfuckers or STP Family.
Verde Valley--I'm here too. Write me and we'll hook up. lionheart@60sfurther.com STP Family--Old MotherFuckers..neither-sorry! Peace LH
i feel compelled to say something profound and not very profound to say it. other then that it's been a year so i've got a bit of catching up to do befor i have anything even remotely cohierent to say accept my appreaciation at being remembered and my best wishes which are meaningless in a good way, if that makes any sense as a way to say it, on the ordination, mindfullness thing. =^^= .../\...
