ok...did some research on amenorrhea in female runners...from what I found, it sounds like amenorrhea is related more to caloric intake than to weight or level of training. Several sites also mentioned that amenorrhic women tend to have protein deficiencies. I know I don't get enough protein....have to do something about that.

Are there any good sources of protein besides the obvious (tofu, eggs, etc)?

This kinda makes me mad...why can't my stupid body just behave normally?

There is mine of information on these two sites regarding vegetarian and vegan diets. Including information sheets on just about every macro/micro nutrient your body needs, how to obtain those nutrients from vegetarian and vegan sources, and in what quantities you need to be taking them in.

Also here is an article relating directly to the possible links of lifestyle factors (including a vegetarian diet and exercise) on the menstrual cycle which you might find helpful.

Also.. be it a wives tale or not... soy has hormones in it. I did an experiment once one month i binged on milk (EWWW EWW EWW, it was nastey) but i went from no milk to milk for a month and my period was 12 days early! Then i cut the dairy out again and my period was normal again. THEN i took it a step further (i am bored generally) and I ate a LOT of soy, i eat a lot anyways but i ate it with every meal and my period was 2 weeks late... this coming from a girl who can set her watch by her period. Anyways, i dont want to hear about how i should be nicer to my body etc etc because i am, i just was wondering because so many people argue about the hormones in dairy and in soy... so i thought i would try it myself... ALTHOUGH it could be psyco-symatic... who knows? but i did notice when i originally stopped eating dairy and started with the vegetarian diet and the soy products my cycle went from 26 days to 35! So there must be somthing in that!!

I just read a ton on this, because I'm going through something similar. I've been vegetarian for maybe a month and a half, vegan for a week (Not my first time on this route)... Mine's been missing for roughly a month and a half..

Anyhow, I believe it's called Amenhorrea. Absence of menstruation. I guess its really common, and also very common in Anorexics(you know how you always hear about them losing their period altogether. ) From not getting all the nutrients your body needs, and adjusting from your old diet and whatnot..

It should come back though, if it hasn't been a wicked long time (years) and if youre still quite young.

I'm still weighing out my options. :(

btw, Shakra, that website is really helpful.

Absolutley,... Not having a period is NOT healthy. This is something our body needs to do.
