near a window, but not too close to it. it needs at least a little bit of light during the winter but not much. decrease the frequency of waterings and it will go dormant.

i have no idea. supposedly a cactus creates alkaloids as a stress response for protection, so maybe scarcity of water, dropped temperatures, and other stresses accompanied with winter/dormancy may increase potency. highly speculative.

keeping the cacti too close to a window will still make it etoliate (spelling?)even with little to no water

keeping it too close to the window during the winter may drop the temperature around it too much.

if by your window it drops below 30 degrees then yes but I doubt that and if it does you either need new windows or need to turn your heat on
