Ok finally found those buggers. They were hiding at this new place called 'The Container Store'. It must have just opened, because it was a parking lot six months ago.

I ended up getting 8 pint jars and 4 quart jars because that was all the straight jars they had. Tonight I'll order the spores and by next weekend the growing will begin. I looked at a couple places for rye berries, but couldn't find any so I'll just use the BRF and Vermiculite this time.

Anyone got any cheap and discrete sources for spores? I bet most of the sites have an option for shipping discretely, but I just wanna make that clear. I can't afford to have my parents find these, so I just ordered some nice head phones, some DR flatwounds for one of my basses, and a new speaker cable.

agways and any, and i repeat ANY grocery store carries caning jars, you just have to look in the right places! i went my whole life without seeing them untill i was looking for them, check next to the pudding and jams! they come in boxes of 12, 8 bucks or something, that should be all you need!

A foaf had trouble finding wide mouth 1/2 pints recently too. She found plenty of other sizes and shapes. (1 pint wide, 1/2 pint tapered, etc, etc.) One store clerk said that ball stopped making 1/2 pint wide mouths, and commented that a lot of people liked them so she wasn't sure why they did. There's definitely an advantage to getting real canning jars. They take the heat better in the P. Cooker and the lids are less likely to rust. Obviously you need wide mouth if you want to do PF Cakes, which, IMHO, is a great place to start. If you have some wide mouth 1/2 pints, hold on to them, because it might be hard to find a replacement.

I've found some at Ace hardware, FYI. Picked up the 8 oz ones you are looking for. I can spare 6. PM me if you're interested, I'll ship them priority. (on me)

yeah ace hardware is where i just found them. checked the container store in my area, and while they did have 1/2 pt glass jars, they didnt seem to have the actual canning jars. a case of 12 was like 8 bucks at ace. nice.

Ralphstersspores.com is a great place for spores. Get roadkill's special, ask for the strain of the month (if you want that many syringes). They are pretty discrete, small package. I got like 7 syringes, and the package fit in the mailbox with ease. Some of the best prices, too.
