most of the old hippies are gone cause they all start wearing business suits and start working for the man

and you can hard find young hippies nowadays because they believe smoking pot or doing alot of drugs makes you a hippie

thats not what its about

its about peace and love for yourself and everyone on the planet thats why they're only few hippies

cause our generation today is very selfish so no one takes out the time to help out their peers

america needs a revolution

To respond to the original post; there's one right here, in Portland Maine.

While I might have not had my head bashed in during rallies, protests, sit-ins and love-ins, I've participated in each starting at the age of 13/14 - so that would be 1967/68. Actually, the love in was in Seal Beach, California - and that was June 25, 1967. And the reason I remember the date so readily, is that pasted in a memory album, I have a flower given to me by another older "flower child". I can still see his face bending down to me, and handing me that flower.

I watched a special on TV (I think it was PBS) on the 60s just two nights ago. Ive seen a few before, but this one had footage and commentary that I'd never seen. I have to bow to those students/citizens that were 8-15 years my senior, and applaud them for all they did in the name of freedom. They put their beliefs out there, and put their lives on the line. I get the feeling that some of the old timers that post here, were in the trenches then. To find out where "all the hippies have gone" you only need to read around this forum, and you'll clearly see where they are.

You are so right! No joke. You are a perfect example of understanding...you seem to understand alot about how the universe works.... you sound like some sort of philosopher or something! :tongue:

 

I consider myself a "hippie", and a long-term non conformist. I have pretty much lived my life thus far very much out of the mainstream, and will probably continue to do so. It's not a trend or a current fashion statement, but a holistic lifestyle.

My last 9-5 job was in 1975. I haven't had a car for 35 years (car pool to town once a week with friends), and have never lived in a conventional house since that time also. My family and I have always lived in tents, cabins, yurts, and now a converted schoolbus. I don't have any charge accounts or credit cards, and have no debts at all. All of my five children were born at home, and homeschooled too. We care about the earth, and live simply and with little negative impact. We care about our bodies, and eat organic and nutritious food. We care about each other, and are a peaceful and loving family.

Where have all the hippies gone.? Some of us are just hanging, being an example of a healthy alternative that is very much possible in this fast paced, consumer driven, crazy world, and hoping and praying and living for a future where justice and peace prevail for all of humankind.

my plan for when the world ends, is to just have a farm, and a little house that is completely self sufficient,and just be.

and then have all the resources and control the world.

 

I've always dreamed about making commune in to some warm place and start living.

i cant really answer the question "where have they gone" since theyre still pretty much everywhere
just if this sites any indication, theyre gettin alot younger every year
i gotta say also, thank god there are still so many hippies in the world or we'd seriusly be fucked
