I have to disagree green_revolution. 50's main stream music had very little effect on the hippie movement. There were a few groups back then that could have effected it a little but they were not mainsteam. I say this only being twenty one so anyone who was around back then may feel free to give me a cyber smack in the face if i'm wrong. The 60's was an awakening. The young people began to stand up and take notice of what was going on around them. Right now we have the mainstream to dislocate us from reality. People are more worried more about who will be on MTV cribs next than the soldiers dying in Iraq civilians dying in Louisiana because our great president is a rotten leader. The fact is that people don't listen to the lyrics anymore. Even mainstream bands like a perfect circle "sad statue" and greenday "american idiot" have very politicaly charged lyrics but when they're song comes on the radio no one hears the words. All we need is an awakening, but at what cost. A thousand more lives? "Moon" "No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn" -Jim Morrison
i stopped watching mtv in the 90s when all that was on was trl. and if you were lucky enough to have a good video on there, they'd show it in only a corner of the screen for thirty seconds with fans screming throughout the whole thirty seconds. fuck mtv. it's like 70% commercials now anyway. shows have gone from 30 minutes to like 7. bring back the real headbangers ball, this one is bullshit, beavis and butthead, daria, and GOOD MUSIC!!! god do i hate mtv
oh man tom petty and the heartbreakers, and the black crowes were so awesome! i saw them in july... incredible! australian pink floyd is coming to town, i want to go!
its because mtv is directed toward teenages, and teenagers will watch things about dating or reality tv shows about their peers. I dont think they should only play rap and hip hop. they should play all kinds of music. Im not realling into rap, but i love music and i think they should play more genres but i dont know. Its all money they want and they know how to get it
To find the good singers or bands you need to look past MTV, its like trying to find a needle in a haystack, they are there but you need to look past the vanity of MTV. Also you say as long as your hot and can shake your ass you will sell loads of albums, Well i see that also going to what ppl want out there, if a girl or guy are great looking etc, ppl will talk to them, its human nature im afraid and it sucks............ppl need to look past their noses
I play in an acoustic 2 piece that will get no airplay because we focus on songwriting and our ability to play music that affects people emotionally. Our infuences are as follows The Band Jefferson Airplane Quicksilver Messenger Service Country Joe & the Fish Buffalo Springfield Moby Grape Flying Burrito Brothers Crosby Stills Nash & Young The Eagles The Allman Brothers The list actually goes on for quite a while but you get the idea. All the songs we do are original. anyway. Id be glad to send you a sample via e mail Digger,..... skylab68@cox.net
MTV started making people listen to a song, instead of an album. then it moved to making people concentrate on the video clip. & from that it made the record companies focus more on how an artist looks than on anything else... today many of the so-called mtv 'stars' aren't even artist. just puppets in an industry.
That's why it's so important to take music back from institutions like that. Music is not an eminent corporate domain It belongs to the people. Fuck mtv! pick up a guitar.
Listen to early blues, folk, and read about the history of harmonica,... I play,..and I dig it. Digger..
haha, so many people complain that "mainstream music sucks" ... well stop listening to the mainstream then!
