I went urban exploring on cough syrup to an abandoned slaughterhouse a couple weeks ago, weirdest part of it was that my feet came away fine and my boyfriend stabbed his foot on a rusted nail through his shoe

    Kia Ora and Ni Hao!

I went to a used bookstore barefoot today. On the way back to my car a guy on a motorized bicycle rode past me, and immediately turned around and came back to talk to me. He said that he noticed that I was barefoot and he was seeing if I was "ok".... I was completely baffled and confused by this vague questoin so I said that I was "ok". He was very nosey but not what I consider full-on rude. The way he was asking so many questions and showing such interest in some barefoot dude walking down the street leaves me wondering if I was being hit on by a gay person. not that I have anything against gay people at all... I think they are PEOPLE and should have EVERY right we straight people have... but I just don't want my barefooting to draw the attention of guys who might be attracted to me. but gay or not, he was respectful and that's what's important.

    Cheers!

I think I'd blow it off. His intentions might have been sincere. Whether we like it or not, being barefoot in public is often associated with being destitute or having wandered away from a treatment facility. Probably the more rational and controlled you appear the better.

I have spent almost two years on crutches with my good foot bare. I love it, even in winter.

I just moved near ventura california. I've spent the whole week mostly barefoot. Today I spent time in the house and on the beach barefoot.

Lost my leg 10 years ago and have been crutching barefoot for about the last five. Usually just in the summer as it is too cold here in winter. Try to spend a few hours each week getting around on my bare foot. The local culture is reasonably barefoot friendly as I have only been hassled infrequently. Perhaps people are more tolerant because I have one leg and happen not to be wearing a shoe.

    Ki Ora Ni Hao!

Going to try out the home depot. I am really enjoying my nearly 3 months without shoes, but this weather is making the ground almost unbearable! I was shopping for a bike yesterday, and found out that even having Kiwi feet from 3 months of going barefoot 24/7 is no match for the hot weather. But it has become more bearable compared to the first 90-something degree day.

    Cheers!

Totally know what you mean, I love going barefoot but when the sun is hot enought to melt the blacktop on the road it just plain hurts.

!edit! This is living in Phoenix btw

I've been to several Home Depots barefoot and have never had a problem. I think the "Shoes Required" signs on their doors are just a "Cover Your Ass" move. I've also been to a few McDonalds that now have "No Bare Feet" signs on their doors. I've just walked in nonchalantly and had no issues. By the way, McDonalds new coffee offerings aren't too bad - and a lot less expensive than Starbucks. I find Starbucks brewed coffee a bit strong for my taste.

I haven't seen a lot of other folks barefoot in public this year, but at the same time, I've encountered a lot fewer comments/resistance this year than in the past. I suspect that with the economy being in the toilet store owners are just glad people are coming into their stores!

Well it was again upper 90's temp wise (97). But although noticeable it was not super real bad for 4 month toughened soles. Just didn't linger on the blacktop. I might have sunk into the surface....lol.

The signs I've seen are large orange decals located at the door. They've got the "Shirt/Shoes Required" along with some other warnings (No Smoking?). There's so much advertising, clutter, etc. that they're often not conspicuous. Every Home Depot I've gone to has had them, maybe you found one that doesn't.

I had an "experience" at a Walmart today. As I walked in barefoot (wearing shorts), the greeter said I should wear shoes. She was barely audible and was wearing an oxygen mask with a portable bottle at her side. I drew closer and asked her to repeat herself. Anyhow, she wouldn't say I couldn't enter, but rather just said I should wear shoes. Anyhow, I explained I'd be quick and went on my way. On my way out, she reiterated her comment, which again was barely audible. She said I might stub my toe or something! Oh well! She didn't deny me entrance!

I was barefoot at Target, the bank, and CVS. All with no problems at all. they are all used to seeing my bare paws...

Um, 2 doctor's offices today. Should Wallmart allow greeters with oxygen bottles? Are they not susceptible to blowing up? Seems like the spectacle of ten toes scattered round the store would be more upsetting than ten toes attached to you.
