some say i look emo haha.. i dont know. i wear whatever i think looks good on the day.. some days it might be pretty, some days "metal" or kinda punky...

my boyfriend is into heavy metal and all that, and he doesnt dress like it at all.. If he saw a nice band t shirt he would wear it, and if it wasnt too expensive! ... but its just not his style i suppose! he looks more clean cut!

I listen to metal (lamb of god, between the buried and me, august burns red, just to name a few) but I don't usually wear band shirts and black constanly etc. But then again I like other stuff too not only metal.

But I don't have low self esteem its just me dressing the way I feel most comfortable.

yea, I get that alot too (even more since i got my lip pierced). It's been like four years and i still don't know why. I listen to NO emo or emocore bands, so I'm not even trying to look this way and still when I'm wearing GnR, CoB, Motley Crue or Motorhead t-shirt, guy comes up and says "hey you look emo". So I guess I'm just this type, even though my hair looks nothing like it (which is the main factor i suppose). What can I do...

I like wearing band t-shirts, I also like torn jeans because wearing this makes me feel good. On the other side I feel a bit wierd wearing suits, so i suppose it's not about how you look like, but how you feel like wearing it.

they are over here. theyre hard to get. Theres hardly any shops that sell them, mostly just tattoo shops that make up their own prices...

Its hard to get any kind of "alternative" clothes here... you have to use the interwebs :p

wear what makes you comfortable :2thumbsup:

Wow , see you two should start your own global internet metal tee-shirt company .

    It could be called J-lynzxx-t's

Jmt- could buy em on the cheap , or shoplift them and package them up . Send em across the pond ,And flood the emerald isle with cheap china made concert shirts . All A-Z heavy metal bands . 100 % cotton of course .

Lynzxx could mark em up 1000% and market them to all the tattoo shops , or anywhere Irish metalist congregate . Thus building a metal monopoly , and branching out to global domination of metal paraphernalia , and ultimate taking over the metal world , a new M.W.O. !

You will be metal gods ?

Just like the Judas priest song says !

I don't see the problem with band shirts. Seems to me if you think wearing metal band shirts all the time already makes a person too metal or even a poser I think the problem lies with yourself :p

sometimes when you walk into a store and everyone is going about their day, dressed in whatever pajamas they have on, just goin to the store to pick up vanilla extract and scissors, when there's this one person in there who thinks its halloween lookin like he just ritualistically killed his neighbors pomeranian.

My regular wardrobe is usually a plain tshirt of any darker color and either jeans or black khakis. Band tshirts are wayyy too expensive.

Lol, this is the type of metalhead I don't find cool.

But its not like they give a fuck how cool I think they are... So I don't worry too much about how anyone dresses. (or how I dress)

I mean, really, who cares? They're just clothes.

I have an assload of band shirts b/c I like the artwork/phrases and thats how I support a band if I like them. I also have some steel-toed boots and camo/cargo shorts. With all that on in combination with my long hair down and shaggy I'm sure I would fit a 'metalhead' stereotype but I don't wear that shit all the time. I can understand the OP's concern as females really into metal generally seem less concerned with dressing 'metal' as some guys can be and since the music is still somewhat underground because it sounds so aggressive and has some taboo/misanthropic lyrical content, people not familiar with the music would expect it's listeners to look and act evil and depressed/violent or something so I could see how outsiders would be shocked if you look conservative and have a friendly demeanor, casually mentioning that your favorite music is 'death metal', and band is something like 'Rotting Christ' or 'Decapitated'. Especially if you are female as women are generally perceived to not like violent, negative, and/or complex things...

The whole point of metal, and accordingly, clothing branded after it's groups, is to be anti-christian, disruptive, and offensive.

Also, doublehippo and anyone else who thinks steeltoes are part of being metal: If your idea of metal doesn't involve steel, fire, earth, water, and a hammer, you should rethink metal ;)

Ironically, in it's role as an outlet for primal scream and observer of change, it is also about progression; being the child of progressive rock afterall. Some of the most technically complex music can be found in metal nowadays. Progress has never been fully peaceful... If it was it would stagnant and die out.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” ~Darwin

Steeltoes also happen to turn me on and protect my toes from the inevitable progress of work.

Where did you get the idea progressive music is about progress?

It's also about progress, not mainly.
