Perosnally I thought Rock and Roll survived the 90s underground but burst into flames and turned to ash when Guitar Hero came out.
I'm intrigued, how did you came to that conclusion? Are you saying there is no good underground rock being made or recorded after the release of guitar hero? Guitar Hero took songs of underground bands and now 'ruined' the underground? Sorry, I'm just guessing now. Could you please explain how you ment that?
Its funny how everyone has a different opinion based on their favorite rock type. You could say glam rock, Cobain's death, Hendrix/Joplin/Morrison deaths and countless others that I'm to lazy to type.
Whatup Asmo, I keep seeing you around in all the threads. But dont get yer knickers in a twist dude. Did you see the South Park where the kids play guitar hero and the Dad tries to teach them real guitar and they say its gay? Thats what Im saying. I hope Guitar Rock makes more kids wanna pick up a real guitar than not ....but who knows. In any case theres constantly awesome talented well produced rock, metal and psy coming out every year, but since the 90s (maybe it was since Kurt died) its mostly underground due to the corporate music world and the advent of computers and the Net. Why dont we see more Led Zeppelins and Nirvanas and Pearl Jams and etc? Cause most good bands are almost always self produced these days, and the megamoney goes to bulshit like Brittney...or it did. As of this year I think corporate rock is dead too.
Well, I just get spontaneous diarrhea from all those opinions about why (good) rock has died. One even more farfetched than the other, and the saddest thing is that there are groovy bands out there recording very groovy albums. Ah no, actually the saddest thing is not that a genre can die, but the fact that people here keep on giving irrelevant happenings (death of Kobain, coming of hair metal, grunge, etc.) the blame of it. If a genre dies it's just because no-one makes that kind of music anymore. And they haven't stopped making rock 'n roll because glam or grunge came around!
Yeah Im with ya bro, there is still great rock out there from all quarters, its just not promoted like it was back in the day....and in those days they said Rock Is Dead too, just like they said The Movement is Dead and Hippies are Dead...which I personally find to be the many typical egocentric pronouncements of the Originals (as I call the Love Generation). http://ookworld.com/essayquest_rockdead.html
If anything I would say that rock n' roll died in 1970 with the death of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin and the breakup of The Beatles. That's when it died, for me.
First of all, fuck you. Second of all, fuck you. That's when all the artists that's when rock and roll changed. Most artist's music changed after 1970 and I don't really like much 70s music. Some bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin remained to be great but there was a lot of crap that started to come out and the crap just grew and grew.
Actually I can finally agree with proggyman for once. It seems it is because you're favourite artists died. By the way, rock 'n roll already changed before the death of those people. Remember where it started? It's only logical it kept on changing. Some changes you strongly dislike (same here, I'm rarely impressed by bands that fit in the so called alternative rock and indie stuff genres), other changes you might dig if you didn't have such a narrow view on today's music scene. Just asking, what do you like so much about the pre-70's rock which is missing ever since?
DIE?????? R'N'R???? I AIN'T EVER SEEN NO CORPSE.......I SEE R'N'R LIKE ENERGY, PURE ENERGY AND "ENERGY CANNOT BE DESTROYED ONLY TRANSFORMED". i BEEN THRU ALL THE MOTIONS FROM LITTLE RICHARD TO SLIPKNOT....DIFF PERIODS, DIFF STYLES, DIFF GEAR, BUT THE GOOD VIBES ARE STILL THERE.....FOREVER!! R'N'R WILL ONLY DIE IF THERE ARE NO DARING ARTISTS LIKE M.MANSON, ETC. WHO GIVE THE STAGNATING MUSIC A HUGE NUDGE...OR LIKE PUNK THAT WIPEDOUT THE POMP ROCK IN THE LATE 70S. CRAPY DSICO MUSIC TRIED TO KILL OFF R'N'R IN THE STUPID 80s BUT ROCK'S STILL HERE...CHANGING...TRANSFORMING ITSELF...FOREVER!!!! LONG LIVE R'N'R!!!!
The reason people think R n R is dead is because of bands like Slipknot...People, you're entitled to your opinion and all but at least give some justification.
Personally I can't see Slipknot and Marilyn Manson as rock 'n roll neither, and that's not only because I can't stand their music.
HISTORY REPEATING my musical friend........that's the same thing peeps used to say when Elvis came out and "rolled over" Benny Goodman.....c'mon folks, pay more attention to what you're saying :cheers2:
