Hi parents, I am trying to find out... when it comes to disciplining your children, is it better to be guided by your head or your heart? I would truly love your support as I endeavour to answer this question. My name is Gina Bennett and I am currently completing the Graduate Diploma of Psychology at the Cairnmillar Institute in Melbourne, Australia. I am seeking participants to complete an online questionnaire for my research project. My research is investigating the role of conscious thought (e.g., using rationality or careful deliberation) and unconscious thought (e.g., using gut-feelings or intuition) in responding to complex parenting dilemmas. The parenting dilemmas in the questionnaire involve adolescent children. Your task will be to indicate to what extent you would apply disciplinary action if your child was found to be involved in things like cheating on an entrance exam, sneaking out of the house, cyber bullying, smoking cigarettes etc. To be eligible to participate, you must be a parent over the age of 18. Your children can be of any age, from infancy to adulthood. Your participation is completely anonymous and confidential. The questionnaire should take only about 30 minutes of your time. To receive more information and/or to take the questionnaire, please access the link below: http://research.millisecond.com/g_bennett00/Script.web Upon accessing the link, you will be asked to download a plug-in to run the questionnaire software. Rest assured this is completely safe for your computer and can be deleted later if desired. This study has obtained full ethical approval from the Human Research Ethics Committee at the Cairnmillar Institute. Results of this study will contribute to a growing body of research relating to best disciplinary practices and natural/intuitive parenting. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your participation. Sincerely, - Mrs Gina Bennett (Student Researcher) - Professor Denise Charman (Head of Academic Organisational Unit).
