OK Susanne, time to chill a bit. Here in America burning the flag started as an anti-Vietnam war statement. Not racist at all. It is a disrespect of the government in charge.

Things are different in different cultures. That's what makes the world interesting, and sometimes sad. But that's what it is. We can only work for change in a positive way.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear !!! your education is sadly lacking !!! - the state of Israel didn't exist in 1933, the jews who were victimised by the Nazi regime were actually German, Italian, Hungarian, Roumanian, Russian, Polish, Czech. The Nazis didn't only victimise the jews either, Socialists, Communists, Intellectuals, Trade Unionists, The Disabled, etc, etc, etc were all victimised by the Nazis.

It may be nothing to you and many others who NEVER served in our military. Each of us that did took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States and to me and many other veterans our Nations Flag represents that Constitution. So, if you're burning it I simply must ask "Why are you even here then"? People in other countries burn their Nations flag because they hate it and are going to attempt to over throw it, here people burn it because they want change...There are better, more respectful ways to obtain change IMO.

You are assuming that because they burn their country's flag they'd rather be somewhere else. And that because they protest against their country's policies, government or whatever their motive is, thst they dislike their country. This is a fallacy of course; they take issue with those policies or aspect of government, etc. They protest because they care about their country.
Unless they're burning public property or your flag they're not doing anything wrong by burning their own american flag. You don't have to like it btw. But at least dislike it for the right reasons

The Constitution guarantees freedom of expression which, according to two Supreme Court decisions, includes the right to burn the flag. If you and other members of the armed services took oaths to defend the Constitution, you should be defending the right to burn the flag. As I've said earlier, I'm amazed that this discussion is still going on, since flag burning seems to have become a rare occurrence and a non-issue. When the forbidden fruit is no longer forbidden, it seems to lose its flavor.

Iowa law then is in conflict with the U.S. Constitution, under the Supreme Court ruling in Texas v Johnson (1989).When was this? Did you have a lawyer?

I don't know what the law in in Australia, but in the United States we have no such sweeping provisions against hate speech. We have a constitutional right under the First Amendment to go around calling people who are different from us insulting names--subject to constitutional restrictions on fighting words and incitement to riot.

As long as the dummy burning it wraps themselves up in it first, I won't interfere.

If you enslave random people you are guilty of not valuing all human life. You feel you are better than everyone.

If you enslave only tall people, you are guilty of not valuing tall humans. You feel you are better than everyone taller than you. You're involved in height discrimination. Height discrimination is a real thing but as height varies in all various races you wouldn't be racist, you would be guilty of "heightism".
If you enslave people based on skin color or religion, you are a racist. (If you include certain religions such as Judaism as a trype of race).

I think it should be legal as long as done safely.

One of the great things about America is that we can complain about our nation.

For those who says it's a non violent way of protesting, answer me this question: how is setting anything on fire non violent? I mean fire can easily spread, plus you are in fact destroying a thing which would qualifying it as vandalisme.

My position on flag burning is simply this: Burning the flag of a nation, be it your own nation or any other, is a decleration of war, because the flag is symbolic of that nation's soverignty and independence.
