thanks for the humor, i needed that probably unintended, but who am i to complain? saw a nice quote in a book i was reading, pima indians to a hungry kit carson: "bread is to eat, not to sell; take what you want" yes, i know, we're holding a gun to your head and forcing you to share . . . Including the flags of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan? If such an exercise is simply an act of exercising free speech, would it be appropriate to extend it to say, burning the Christian bible? the Qur'an? an effigy of a serving politician? or how about an effigy of Muhammad?
I am fine with it. The meaning behind it is very important though. I Burned the american flag on the 4th of july. They put them all over my neighborhood and everyone like to light their sparklers and cheer while OUR people are overseas killing without purpose, I felt burning the flag in front of my house was a subtle dissapproval of the american spirit..
your redefinitions get sillier and sillier all the time... are you fondly remembering the days of republican socialism?
Glad you enjoyed it. We appear to have a broad age span here so periodically I like to throw something in that might appeal to those decades younger than I. Republican Socialism? Socialism is simply Socialism, and Republican and Democrat are but party names. I fondly remember each and every day. I make each day what I wish it to be myself, without government assistance of any kind.
Democratic and Republican - I have some other things going on and thoughts and words typed got scrambled and I didn't notice. Thanks for pointing it out.
Look at this crazy shit- a 17 yr old kid had a small flag stiched into the seat of his pants- at 1st they gave him 6 months (this is back in 70 or 72- I dont remember) http://atheism.about.com/od/flagburningcourtcases/a/SmithGoguen.htm A little extreme , doncha think? :willy_nilly:atriot::willy_nilly: Gov,t probably spent a boatload of dough- this went all the way to the Supreme Court* *
burn the flag all you want i suppose. but don;t do it in my presense, otherwise we might be duking it out.
The flag represents different things to different people. No need to get your panties in a twist or feel personal attacked if someone decides to burn one. I don't care if people burned my country's flag and I couldn't care less if it was done by my fellow countrymen.
Im still convinced the patriot act was created not so much to deal with terrorisim as it was to go after people who have opposing views to the government in this country. It makes speaking out against the war or opposing government policies illegal. Patriot act has been used to go after those food not bombs people, they are on the terrorist list although all they do is feed the homeless. to me, people are far more important than some piece of cloth. its we the people that make it all possible that make it happen man, not some piece of cloth and not some border or boundry. Now im not sure if im opposed or unapposed or neutral to flag burning. All I know for certain is its not flag first its people first. peace from snowtigger
